Great place to play tennis!! One of only a few public courts still mainly available for tennis. Yeah! Always a great place to play tennis 🎾 for free …
Travis Downing: ★★★★★
Top notch tennis and pickleball facility. Plenty of courts that are in good condition. If you are a pickleball player, be prepared to wait for games, as there are only 8 courts, and the demand is high.
L T: ★★★★
Nice courts. Plenty of open courts. Well maintained courts and park in general. Lighted in the evening. Easy to find parking (unless there's kids games going on). Handicap and stroller friendly sidewalks. Well maintained bathrooms nearby.
Antoniya Cronk: ★★★★★
Great size park with plenty of spots fields to play whether your heart desires.. from basketball to baseball, pickle ball, volleyball and even soccer. Huge park
John Marshton: ★★★★
I’ve played at the Poinsettia pickleball courts in Carlsbad a lot, and overall, it’s a great spot. Six free, well-maintained courts, good lighting for night play, and a solid mix of recreational and competitive players. Courts 1–4 are more social; 5 and 6 are challenge courts where winners stay on. Usually, the vibe is positive and welcoming. Mornings and early evenings are the best times to show up. Just know that wait times can stretch to 30–45 minutes during busy hours. That said, there’s one ongoing issue that really hurts the experience: a local homeschooling family regularly shows up and disrupts play. The parents are hands-off and aloof, and they let their youngest child—who clearly doesn’t know how to play—jump into games with strangers. The siblings won’t play with him, the dad won’t step in, and the mom becomes rude and defensive when anyone raises a concern. It’s frustrating to wait all that time to finally get on the court, only to be paired with a child who can’t serve, return, or even understand what’s happening. It throws off the flow of play and puts everyone in an awkward position. I still enjoy playing here, but I wish the city or someone in the community would step in to set clearer expectations about court etiquette and shared space. It’s a public park—we should all be able to enjoy it, but not at the cost of basic courtesy and common sense.
Johana Bonanno: ★★★★
great experience friendly people. the park might need more courts this sports is growing faster than tennis 🎾 …
Kayla Szulc: ★★★★★
The pickleball courts are great way to have some fun playing a team sport. It’s full of a wonderful community of very kind people. No matter if your an advanced or a beginner player you’ll be welcomed. However, if you are a beginner you will be paired with advanced players. It’s free to play and you can go with friends or completely alone (just bring a paddle)

Keep up the great work Carlsbad city. Separating the pickleball and tennis in a manner where we can co exist peacefully. Unlike Encinitas.
Pickleball Lessons: ★★★★★
Great and fun games with friendly players. If you're around Carlsbad for a quality pickleball game, this is the place to visit.
V S: ★★★★★

Beautiful Pickleball courts in Carlsbad
Jana N.: ★★★★★
This park is one of my favorites! It is so well taken care of with so many amenities that includes an off-leash dog park separated by small and large dog areas, all the sports courts and my particular favorite, the pickleball courts. The few times I've been here has been enjoyable and everyone (including dogs) have been very amicable. The dog park is very well kept and like how they have some little obstacles courses for the dogs. The pickleball courts are also very nice but there are some areas that have been worn out, mostly behind the baseline. But nice seating area and efficient paddle system to rotate people in and out. I only wish it was closer to me.
Cristina R.: ★★★★★
Best public tennis courts in north county. Also open play on some great Pickleball courts
Jeff A.: ★★★★★
Great place to get in some pickleball. We were from out of town and went over several times to find nice people and good games. Heard some places are empty and no other players, but always folks at Poinsettia.
Michelle H.: ★★★★★
BEAUTIFUL PARK with ample pickleball courts and tennis courts! I drove to this park because I went to another park first to play tennis only to find the tennis courts were taken over by pickleballers . Poinsettia Community Park is refreshing in that there are dedicated Pickle Ball courts and DEDICATED TENNIS COURTS! Hooray! Yay for tennis. The tennis courts even have signs on every gate saying NO PICKLE BALL! The courts were absolutely stunning. My son and I had a blast rallying. The people there were so friendly too.
Vincent C.: ★★★★★
So a lot of people probably don't know but you can drink at parks in Carlsbad which is way I like Carlsbad so much. Whenever I'm coming here you can bet I'm having a nice beer from Karl Strauss, Modern Times or Alpine Brewing. Anyway this is a very nice and big park with very clean restrooms. If you play tennis or pickleball this is the spot for you. They have a basketball court with a playground that should be open now. So check out this park if you want to have a good time.
Helen Mongan-Rallis: ★★★★★
Beautiful park with 6 excellent pickleball courts. 4 of these are for open play, with most people on them in the morning (from 8-10 or so) playing at around 3.5-4.0 level. The remaining courts are challenge courts, probably 4.5-5.0 level play. The only drawback is there are so many people there from 8-10 am that there is quite a long wait (16-20 paddles stacked waiting). I don’t know what it’s like later in the day.
Robert Wilson: ★★★★★
Excellent pickle ball courts, extremely nice people. It does get busy! Good luck.
Sebastian: ★★★★★
There are many courts, and there are usually some free courts whenever I go there. There are sign in sheets that only some people use, and they are a bit confusing. If there are enough free tennis courts then you really shouldn't worry about how signing in and the confusion. Just go there to play tennis for a bit and enjoy life. The weather is great in Carlsbad, so that shouldn't be an issue. Almost any day of the year, people will be fine to go here and practice tennis. The surrounding park is also really pretty, so it's just an all around great experience. Highly recommend this place. Not a better place to play tennis in Carlsbad.
Alfred Munoz: ★★★★★
Nice people and awsome courts. The ground is not as rough as other courts so soles of my shoes doesn't wear out like other sand paper like courts., yet plenty of grip. Courts are pressure washed regularly, so they are very clean.
Miguel Perez: ★★★★
Great park. Super clean and beautiful landscape. 💯 I recommend this place for all the family with kids boys doing sports and pets place. …
Guy Larsen: ★★★★★
Just like all puckle ball places it gets it's share or A holes.....sometimes I can be one of em. But its FREE to play there and while some people pair up there always seems to.be plenty of singles to join up and play. My only suggestion is if you're playing on the SOCIAL PLAY side......lighten up on the OUT CALLS......if it's close.....ITS IN !!!!!
Mustafa Odeh: ★★★★★
Really well-maintained tennis courts! I usually find a place at 5 pm to play but during peak times (around 6-7 pm on weekdays) you might have to wait 20-40 minutes depending on the line.
Kevin Curtis: ★★★★★
One of the best Pickleball facilities in the area. Two challenge courts and eight open play. Lighted at night. Open from 8:00 to 10:00.
Matt: ★★★★
Love this place and the people who play there! My only complaint is the long lines. It would be so cool if they could make more courts here.
Sascha Molly: ★★★★
Typically a wait, but it's never too long. Other patrons are friendly. Clean, well kept courts.
Macklin Roberts: ★★★★★
Great courts, almost always people there to play pickup games with

Great dog park with pickle ball, playground, basketball courts and baseball diamond. Soccer area and BBQ area.
George J: ★★★★★
Outstanding Pickleball set up, great competition, need more courts! Rest of park is nice!
nicky stromme: ★★★★
I love the park for its playground, basketball court, walking paths, it’s a beautiful park with green trees and lots of grass. But I really wish there were more pickleball courts! There’s one enclosed area with four courts and it is 100 percent of the time packed. There are signs in the about 10 tennis courts saying no pickleball, I know the court size is different for pickleball but if the many tennis courts are empty I think it doesn’t hurt to play pickleball there. But the dog park is nice, they have a great atmosphere at the park it’s safe and has baseball fields and soccer fields too.
Hudson Shrader: ★★★★★
This city does a great job at keeping the Pickle Ball and Tennis from fighting for a court unlike Encinitas.
Guy Larsen: ★★★★★
I love playing pickleball here. Friendly people and it's always cracking with games. Other places die off by noon. Not here....
Mitch Weisel: ★★★★★
Luv the pickleball facilities and people at these courts. I was a guest from Orange County and the local players were welcoming, competitive, and FUN!
Jeffrey Fortuna: ★★★★★
Amazing park with quite a bite for everyone. They have a great young kids play area that is very unique. A good number of tennis and pickleball courts. Basketball courts, massive soccer fields, baseball, softball, a nice hiking trail that weaves around the park. One think to note is there are four parking lots, if you plan to meet anyone there you should let them know which of the parking areas you are at or plan to park at. Also a decent dog park but nothing fancy.
U.B: ★★★★★
Great for tennis and Pickelball!
Anton Maroun: ★★★★★
Beautiful park!! I always go for the pickleball! Wish there were more pickleball courts!! Restrooms: Restrooms are usually pretty clean compared to other parks!! Dog-friendliness: Super dog friendly! I always see people walking there pups!
Lisa: ★★★★★
This park is well maintained with so many activities! We come here for the pickleball (of course lol) sometimes it can be a very long wait for each game so you hope you get a good competitor, it is well organized and the people are nice! If you’re looking for free pickleball and in the neighborhood I’d check it out if you have the extra time to wait!
Andy Anderson: ★★★★★
Absolutely great place to play pickleball. They have 4 courts for easier play and a separate side with 2 courts for more competitive players. Everyone is very friendly and helpful to each other. There are tennis courts as well. Restrooms: Nice restrooms right next to the courts.
Fun Chad: ★★★★
Another 10 pickleball courts wouldn't be enough 😆 I play Pball and tennis here, but it's a big community park with lots of great opportunity for the whole family... including Fido 🐕 Restrooms: They have been desperately needed near tennis and pickleball, so very grateful to finally have them.
Neil Bush: ★★★★★
Wonderful place to meet interesting people that we can play competitive pickleball. It's pretty awesome that a public park has such a nice facility.
Jack Tomberlin: ★★★★★
The best pickle ball park I've been to. Challenge courts have 4.5 players at most times. Looking forward to hopefully more courts soon. Nice facilities for tennis and a children's playground too.
Breezn Sd: ★★★★★
Pickleball courts every day weekdays and weekends till 10pm for open and competitive play courts open for all , weather permitting.
Robbie Katz: ★★★★★
Best place for competitive pickup pickleball in San Diego/North County. Amazing quality courts and friendly competitive players. Also they have lights so you can play when it is dark out. Public restrooms are available and are relatively clean.
Joey D'Elia: ★★★★★
Great pickleball courts. Lights on till 10pm. Bathroom close to courts. Ev charging next to courts. Shade over one section of bleachers.

Great place for picklball drop in games. Fun and competitive group of people playing both night and mornings.
Charley Jaspera: ★★★★★
Pickleball is fantastic with a well-organized drop-in system. The courts are in excellent shape. Wait time can be long in the early morning due to the sport's popularity. Although I didn't explore the rest of the park, it looked to be pretty immaculate.
William Taylor: ★★★★★
Really nice public park if you play tennis or pickleball. 'Drop in' tennis on weekdays starting at 7am-ish.
David Toneff: ★★★★★
Super competitive pickleball. But even though the pickleball was very competitive the people there were great. If you're looking to up your game this is your place. My wife and I walked around the park after and it is just beautiful. Could have spent the whole day there. Wish we would have had more time in San Diego.
Raymond Henson: ★★★★
There is a lot going on at this park. We spent time at the playground for kids with our grandson and the playground for adults, the pickleball courts. The courts are really nice and so is the competition. It looked like the tennis courts were great too.
David K. Wilson: ★★★★★
I play pickleball here on a weekly basis. The six courts are pretty nice for public ones. They also have a new dog park, remodeled playground, large soccer field, and a smaller multi-use field. There are outdoor basketball courts and a baseball field where they hold concerts in the park.
Kevin Welty: ★★★★★

Nice new facility...Pickleball and Tennis. Clean bathrooms and drinking water.. Good parking.. WILL NEED MORE PICKLEBALL COURTS VERY SOON!!
Gary Kawano: ★★★★★
They have a number of tennis courts that are available at slower times, but often a wait at peak times. Regarding pickleball. They have outdoor beginner and advanced courts. Great place to find a pick up doubles match. Usually too crowded for singles or to grab your own court. Closes 10pm.(lights off, gate locked)
Galina Tchourilova: ★★★★★
Nice Park with soccer field, tennis and pickleball courts, playground and a picnic area. Lovely and green

A great friendly group of people for some pickleball
Robin Ellingson: ★★★★★
Fantastic Pickleball facility!
Rian Weston-Dodds: ★★★★★
This place has a great Pickleball scene and great courts. The downside is that you often have to wait a while :/ they need to work on that rotation system, or incorporate one of the middle courts into the “advanced” player side
Josh W.: ★★★★★
Pickleball courts were crowded (9am Sunday morning) A lot of people waiting to play. The players had a system to rotate so everybody got to play. Nice courts, small overruns.
Emiko Stinson: ★★★★★
I play tennis occasionally at Poinsettia Park. They have good courts with lights. There are also separate pickle ball courts, which is nice that there are no pickle ball lines on the tennis courts.
Diane: ★★★★★
Pickleball courts were fantastic!
Matthew Booher: ★★★★★
One of the best public tennis court facilities that we have visited. Courts are in great shape, and every Court was full when we arrived. On the upper level, there is a separate area for pickleball. We did not have to wait very long, maybe a couple minutes. There doesn't seem to be an organized way to sign up for a tennis court at this facility, so it is pretty much first come first serve. We will play here again next time we are in Carlsbad.
Teresa Beach-Koecher: ★★★★★
Saturdays have free Pickleball courts and lots of friendly competition.
Teresa Koecher: ★★★★★
Pickelball courts are free and full of really great players at every level
Mark Harp: ★★★★
Great pickleball facility. Can be very crowded but is fairly organized. Need to have three levels of skill instead of two.
kai lo: ★★★★★
Best free pickleball 3.0 to 5.0 and up very fun!!!

We LOVE the pickleball courts!! It will be nice when they put in the dog park & restrooms next door to pball! The playground past the tennis courts, by the restrooms looks like a lot of fun, too!
Clay Renick: ★★★★★
This park is one of the best in Carlsbad. Brand new place structure for kids, 10 tennis courts, 8 pickle ball courts, basketball courts, soccer fields, and 3 baseball fields. All facilities are taken care of meticulously.

Played pickleball there and it's a great setting with lots of parking. Think side bleachers are a nice touch especially if they provided a little shade.

This place is getting better. Now they have brand new pickle ball courts n they just remodel the playground.
Carly Bull: ★★★★★

Free tennis courts. Huge Park, lot of activities
Carlos Alvarez: ★★★★
Great park, 2 full size turf soccer fields. Basketball courts, tennis courts, 2 baseball fields, dog park and a kids playground. My only dislike would be the limited amount of parking during tournaments and FNL games.
Michael Mills: ★★★★★
Great place for baseball games. Beautiful jungle gyms for the littler kids. Very huge park overall. Very nice turf soccer / football fields. Also has basketball and tennis courts. Parking is very minimal. So if there is a bigger sports event (which there always is) plan for extra time to find parking spots.
Giuseppe “Oipea78”: ★★★★★
Awesome tennis court. Be mindful to wait up the stairs, if I didn't go with friends I would never knew it!!!
Montgomery Newcom: ★★★★★
A large park with multiple, clean restrooms, a dog park, many tennis courts, and a very nice (if not enormous) tot lot. Restrooms: Multiple locations throughout the park. All are very nice.
Vera: ★★★★★
This is a great park with great facilities for everyone. Tennis courts (very busy on weekends), athletic fields, a very nice dog park, a very nice playground for younger kids, basketball courts, and a great walking path. Too bad, people can be ignorant to their best like unleashing their dogs on the grassy field while the dog park was empty not far from it.
Edmond Axios (edmondaxios): ★★★★★
I’ve played tennis and pickle ball here for years now. The tennis courts are generally clean and well kept and the pickleball community is lovely. I highly recommend checking it out as its free!

Very nice facility! The tennis courts are usually open until 10:00 pm, so it's convenient when I have to work late.
Aida Shirley: ★★★★★
This park has many Tennis courts and in good condition.
Jacquelyn Sidhwa: ★★★★
Really nice park to walk around. It connects to the neighboring communities. The parking is sort of odd, you have like 4 or 5 smallish parking lots. If you want to baseball fields, turn left when you enter park and follow the road to the end (parking lot). If you want tennis courts, they are to the right immediately when you drive in. There are a lot of tennis courts, given most parks I go to have 2-4 courts total). If you want the playground, turn right at entrance and follow to second parking lot on your left (right after tennis courts end). The playground is awesome for kids. Bright blues, oranges and greens; it has a seussical vibe with awesome sensory toys. My only complaint of the playground is at one side there are two sets of stairs...feels like they should have made this a ramp with the same rubbery texture so maybe kids could roll and play on it...because my toddler just wants to play on the stairs. There are also two soccer fields. One to the right of the playground. Another below that one, with another small parking lot. Overall, a really cool park with a little of everything.
Larry Lisser: ★★★★★
This park is nicer than an elite tennis club I belonged to in Los Gatos CA. Tennis courts are beautiful and well maintained.
Gina Michelle: ★★★★★
This park has it all. Baseball & soccer fields, brand new playground equipment that looks super fun & unique (with mounds of turf to play on), nice tennis courts, pickle ball courts, basketball courts and a walking path that goes around the park. There is a lot of shade, too! And large grassy area
Lorenzo Sorano: ★★★★★
Awesome facilities. The tennis courts are very nice, plenty of parking and you’ll almost always have an open court!

Seems like it's the only place within miles with nice tennis courts and lights. I drive here from Carmel valley if I want to get an uninterrupted game of tennis in.

Absolutely amazing park, and they're making it bigger so there's some roped off areas near the lower field. Jungle gym has good padding beneath with bathrooms close by, lots of tables with grills near bye, basketball courts, soccer fields, tennis courts, are all clean and well kept. Very impressed with this local park, it looks like it should be part of a country club. It is tucked up into a neighborhood so please please drive slowly and safely for the kids and dogs!

A good number of tennis courts makes getting on not too difficult. Courts are in good shape. Soccer fields have the newer, softer turf.

Pickleball wait time is 35 minutes in between games.

Rules on courts are NOT enforced by Parks & Rec or Carlsbad PD; they each point at the other. Pickleball is overwhelmingly packed all the time, while tennis courts are occupied by coaching, ball machines, and a hundred balls (see pics).
Chad Martin: ★★★
Carlsbad Parks & Rec hasn't been enforcing the rules, so it's difficult to get on a court, while others do whatever they want.

Great courts but is always busy. 30 min wait between games most days and especially nights.

Nice park. 6 Pickleball courts. The only reason I give it a 3 star vs a 5 star is because they need to add more courts. All courts were full with lots of people waiting to play. I talked to some people waiting and they said it’s always that way.

I sometimes come to Poinsettia to get good reps for pickleball. I have played many times on the social side, and I have lately won matches on that side by large margins (i.e., 11-3). I have since transitioned to playing on the competitive side to challenge myself against good competitors to help myself improve as recommended by friends who are frequent players on the competitive courts. While this was not my first time, I went today to play more on the competitive courts. When I walked in, there was an immediate sense of pretentiousness and arrogance that filled the environment on these two courts. All of the people here on this day were friends, and they were not welcoming to people outside their clique. After a long wait, a younger lady with reddish hair in a ponytail and clear glasses (had some accent, likely European) and a disheveled guy (massive beard and honestly looked homeless) called my friend and me to play. This was my friend's first match of the day, as well as mine, so we were still warming up during the first few points. After some mistakes on our end, our arrogant competitors were laughing. A couple times, they attempted to cheat the score to end the match faster. My partner and I called them out for the wrong score, and they laughed and rolled their eyes. We ended up losing the match 8-11, which for our first match of the day, was not bad. We targeted the reddish-haired lady as she was low-level (about 3.0-3.25 level) compared to us and the other players there. After the match, the lady did not come to the net and ran away, and the bearded-guy did not thank us for the match but simply asked if we knew the difference between social and competitive courts because he said my partner and I were very bad at pickleball and did not deserve to play amongst the other players on competitive courts as it made the experience miserable, and it was a waste of their time. He kept repeating this was a common consensus amongst everyone (aka all their friends). Let me remind you, the score was 8-11, and the match lasted 20-25 minutes. It was not a blowout where they had the right to offer us harsh criticism as we clearly challenged them. Next, he said we clearly do not realize pickleball has an etiquette, and our choice to play on the courts that afternoon at what he thought was a horrible level (again, score was 8-11) violated etiquette. As we were grabbing our stuff, we had to pass by the paddle queue, and the reddish-haired lady immediately blocked the paddle area thinking we were trying to play again and said, "No, no, no! You both are trash and don't belong here where the greats are, like myself. If you want to continue playing, go to the social side or leave now! You don't have an option to stay here. Nobody likes you here." Last I checked, the courts are PUBLIC--she has no right to dictate where I can and can't go on public property as that is a violation of the law. Even if she did, the lady should have come along with us to the social side or left because she was lower level than we were. At the same time this happened, a new man lunged at us, almost grabbing us to push us out the exit door. When we left, the same man yelled at us and held onto the door to prevent us from re-accessing the courts. Pretentious people with zero remorse for their disgusting behavior. While they might not think we have etiquette for playing at a high-enough level (even though we almost beat them), they clearly have zero social etiquette, something that is far more important in life, and are happy to be verbally abusive to strangers. Unfortunately, nobody came to defend us despite the loud, obvious, and blatant disrespect. Again, IT'S PICKLEBALL, let alone at a public park! It's not supposed to be that deep, yet these people have no other lives expect for bullying developing, yet still competitive, players.
