    Pickleball Equipment

A variety of sports and recreational equipment is available for members to check out and use on the Drayson Center premises. These include paddles, balls, nets, and much more! Visit the Intramurals Office window on your way to the courts. The Drayson Center tennis pro has priority for the tennis Practice Court and Court 1. However, “Open Play” is permitted on these courts when not in use. We ask that you observe and respect the rules at all times. Please do not reserve courts for other members.
    For information:

    Pickleball Open Play

Generally, “Open Play” means three things:

    • Court 3 to 6 are reserved for pickleball.
    • Open Play is generally unhosted.
    • The “Etiquettes of Play” apply (see etiquettes below).

    Etiquette Of Play

    • Please introduce yourselves prior to play and tap paddles after play.
    • Winning teams play two games. When multiple players are waiting, it is four off and four on after one game.
    • Please use paddle holders to hold your place in line for the next game.
    • The “train-side” (north) serves first. If you don’t know which is the train-side, just wait a few minutes and you’ll figure it out.
    • Please call out scores before serving and call lines confidently. Spectators should not call lines. If a player cannot call a ball “out” definitively, or teammates make conflicting calls, the ball is “in.”
    • Do not walk across the back of any court during live play. If your ball rolls onto another court, the new rule is to allow those players to call “ball on” and stop play, unless you feel there is imminent danger for them. Then, you can call “ball on,” but please do not run onto their court to retrieve your ball; ask for their assistance.
    • Profanity is prohibited. Violators may be asked to leave.
    • Loma Linda University is a non-smoking campus. No smoking or vaping.
    • Alcohol is strictly prohibited.

Days And Times For Club Play

    • Monday–Thursday evenings, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
    • Sunday mornings, from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The facility opens Sundays at 5:30 a.m.
    • The only exception is when intramural leagues are scheduled.

Drayson Center’s pickleball courts now have a special place for spectators to view the action on Court 3. The fence has been lowered significantly and bleachers installed to allow for match viewing. The bleachers will allow spectators at pickleball tournaments and other events to “get up close and personal” with the matches taking place.

Loma Linda Pickleball Club Etiquette Of Play

    • Please introduce yourself before every game. Tap paddle handles at conclusion of game.
    • Train side serves first at Drayson Center. (Most places have a “side” that serves first, so find out what that is.)
    • Call the score loudly before you serve.
    • Call balls “out” on your side loudly.
    • Spectators should not call lines
    • If you’re not sure if in or out, play as if it’s in
    • Immediately stop play when “ball on” is called.
    • “Ball on” should only be called if it is a safety issue (rolling on someone’s court) or may affect the point at that time.
    • Rolling along the fence does not constitute a safety issue, so do not disrupt the other court’s rally; wait till they are done that point and then ask them to retrieve your ball for you.
    • Do not run onto someone else’s court to get your ball–wait for them to finish play and then ask them to retrieve your ball.
    • Winning team plays max 2 games then comes off; if people waiting–4 off/4 on.
    • Use paddle holders to save your spot for next game.
    • Do not walk across back of court during live play. Don’t linger behind on court.
    • Refrain from profanity, alcohol use, and nicotine products.

It is a great place to exercise. There is a gym and racquetball courts and exercise equipment inside, and tennis courts, pickle ball courts and a track outside. And there are two swimming pools. It serves mainly LLU employees, but community memberships are available.

Spent time 7 am to 2 pm on Sunday. Enjoyed the badminton courts, tennis courts, table tennis and swimming to end the day. Best place for singles, couples and family who loves sports and activities

Everything you would need and free to employees of the hospital, including residents. Nice soccer and tennis courts outside that I use frequently. Gym is a bit small, but never had any problems getting to the equipment.

The Drayson Center is the premier fitness center in SanBernardino County. The membership is free if you are a student at Loma Linda University or an employee of the university or Medical Center. It is discounted if you are an alumni of LLU. There is an indoor and outdoor running track. Indoor gym with basketball, Volleyball, and pickleball. There are ping pong tables, virtual sports, fitness classes, free weights, weight machines, there are aerobics machines of all kinds including treadmills and ellipticals. There are outdoor sports fields and a lap pool and water slide. I probably missing something, but it is no wonder Loma Linda is a blue zone because of their diet, low stress Christian lifestyle, and fitness. Drayson is part of that. They open at 0530 (when I go) and though it is not crowded, there are a surprising amount of people who go both young and older.
    Sean Tanaka: ★★★★
If the weight room was larger and had more cardiovascular and weightlifting equipment this place would be a five star easy. Classes, pool, basketball, racquetball tennis courts and field are excellent. This place is maintained well. Wide variety of members from seniors to kids.
    Steve Lee: ★★★★★
Has pretty much everything you would want. Indoor running track, volleyball and basketball courts, racquetball, table tennis, gym with free weights and machines with all the cardio stuff, all kinds of classes ranging from spin, martial arts, personal trainers, tennis courts, large outdoor track around a field for soccer and ultimate Frisbee, etc... lap pool, water slide, childrens pool, Jacuzzi, sand volleyball courts
    Bruce Montana: ★★★★★
Complete activity center for students, employees and seniors. Gym, pool, basketball, tennis, racketball etc.
    Sean Swentek: ★★★★★
The flagship fitness facility of the Inland Empire, Drayson Center has everything anyone could ever want or need, including all athletics and sports, weightlifting, cardio, classes, and more. They offer: Beach/sand and indoor volleyball, Basketball, Racquetball, Soccer, Football, Swimming, Yoga, CrossFit, HIIT. So much more. The best place around for getting in shape!
    Brian Collins: ★★★★★
Racquetball, Tennis and Basketball courts all very nice!

Clean facilities!!! From raquetball to pools!
    Reggie A.: ★★★★★
May not be the biggest or most complete gym but it has enough to have a good workout. The community is great for the most part. For sports they have 3 really good indoor basketball courts which are also used for volleyball, indoor soccer and badminton. They also have 3 raquetball courts, an indoor track, multiple swimming lanes and also a pool/slide for kids, multiple soccer fields which are also used for flag football and multiple tennis courts (very small tennis wall though). They also offer nutrition programs and different kinds of massages. Great place to stay fit and very family friendly. My only pet peeve is you need to have a towel in order to be in the weight room.
    Seno C.: ★★★★
A regular place for work out & cardio. The place offer various programs & varieties of exercises. From outdoor tennis, badminton, pickle ball to racquetball, cycling and swimming. They do a thorough maintenance once a year between Christmas and New Year. Clean, well lit and bright color decor. Great to have nearby.
    Kevin C.: ★★★★★
Easier to give this gym 5 stars if you are a student because this gym is expensive. But they provide great fitness options from basketball, racketball, tennis, outdoor and indoor track. They also let you rent out equipment so you don't need to give any for basic use. So I consider the Drayson to be more of a sports complex. It's kept nice and clean. Overall, a great place to workout with variety.
    Margie A.: ★★★★★
This is a beautiful gym, located on the Loma Linda University campus. Membership is open to the public. There is a large number of cardio machines, weight machines, and a free weight room. Aerobic, yoga, Pilates, cycling, eye are taught here. The lap pool is always a good temp. There are a number of children in it during the summers. They also have racquetball & tennis courts, in addition to basketball court & inside track. In short - I need more stars!
    Ronnie M.: ★★★★★
This place is really nice, clean, friendly people and SOME staffs would greet you with a smile, if you're a full time loma linda employee you and your family get free membership which is really good, too bad I have to pay. But it's not that bad since I only pay $15 every month. They have a indoor track, basketball court, ping pong tables, tennis court, pool, and out door track too, gym is somewhat small, they even have tai chi class not sure what else they offer. I do recommend this place if ever you guys are trying to stay fit
    Kevin G.: ★★★★
Ive been going here for 10 years now. I give it 4 stars for a huge facility with great equipment, large flat screen TVs throughout the exercise rooms, and almost every amenity available - indoor/outdoor oval running tracks, 3 basketball courts, tennis, racquet ball courts, Olympic swimming pool, kids waterpark, locker room saunas, volleyball, soccer, baseballl, and football fields, yoga, martial arts, dance classes and many more classes offered. They got masseuses and personal trainers on staff as well. There's a good mixed crowd and is very rarely empty. Don't know many gyms that offer all in one unless you belong to a fitness club in hollywood. Only reason I didn't give it 5 is because of the lack of a motivating sound system in the weight/cardio rooms. So bring your iPod/iPhone/mp3 player to get a good quick workout. The hours are limited and aren't open 24/7 like 24 hour fitness. otherwise if you also like socializing more with the college students youll enjoy coming here.
    Estelle P.: ★★★★★
The Drayson Center is awesome! They have amazing classes such as yoga, kickboxing, BATS (buns, abs and thighs), and believe me, you really get a great workout. You can also get a great massage or use the sauna. The weight room is probably on the smaller side but I've never been to a university gym that has room for every student, employee and affiliate....that just isn't realistic. I have also never been to a commercial gym that has so many available activities. The hours are the same as the rest of campus...and since it has a religious affiliation it makes sense. I personally love the variety that the Drayson offers. You can run on the indoor or outdoor track, play volleyball indoors or outdoors, play basketball, soccer , raquetball or table tennis. Overall I would say for a gym that is free to students, this is the best one I have seen. I have also been to the gym in the daytime and after 5 pm and I've never had to wait for more than 5 minutes for a machine but in the event that I did have to wait, that would be just fine because there are tons of other things to do while you wait.
    EandL H.: ★★★★★
Fabulous gym. The aerobics classes are great-- especially recommend the Pilates, step aerobics, yoga, and BATS. The classes they have are great but they are limited-- not many classes offered. They get crowded and sometimes parking is tight, so get to the gym 20 minutes early to grab a spot in the class. The pool is gorgeous-- large outdoor heated lap pool, hot tub, and water slides (not sure how often the slides are open). The pool is especially busy at lunchtime, but it's not busy in the late evenings (closes at 9:30) or Sundays. At those times you can get your own lane. The weight room itself is crowded. The fitness center has a senior citizen membership, in which they pay discounted rates to work out in the mornings/early afternoon. Sometimes peeps will claim a weight machine and just sit on it. :) Awkward turtle. :) There are the standard cardio machines with some TVs. Usually at least one treadmill/elliptical/bike is open. The locker rooms are nice, large, clean, and uncrowned. Bring a padlock to use a locker. There's a huge outdoor track/complex with a dirt-track for jogging, soccer fields, and tennis courts. There is also an indoor gym for pick-up and intramural Vball, Bball, etc. And there's an indoor track around the ceiling of the gym. It's awesome overall. My only complaint about the Drayson center is its SDA hours: closed Friday-evenings and all-day Saturday.

This place is more of a community/rec center than a typical gym. There are already lots of positive reviews on Google so I'll start off with reasons why you might NOT want to come here: -Terrible weight room often overcrowded from 5pm to 8pm. Outdated, limited equipment. If you are at least semi-serious about lifting weights, you are better off at any other commercial gym. -If you are not affiliated with Loma Linda, membership is expensive. If you are using the full extent of all the facilities though, it's still decent value. -Table tennis and tennis courts are rarely ever available and seem to be monopolized by a few groups of regulars that are always there. -Limited weekend hours. I get they close for Sabbath but I wish they could open just a bit longer on Friday and also bring back the later hours on Sunday. To be fair, here are the great things about this place: -Nice community of members and friendly staff. People are pretty considerate about wiping off equipment -Wide variety of sports and facilities available -Great pool especially for lap swimming (gets overcrowded in the summer because of all the kids programs though). Also the spa/jacuzzi tends to get crowded too. -Great pickle ball community (in fact this seems like the only thing the Drayson Center cares about improving) -Group fitness classes are included as a part of the membership
    Jason H.: ★★★
If you don't mind a gym that closes Friday at 3:30pm and all Saturday and want access to things not available at smaller gyms, this may be a good option for you. They have racquetball courts, table tennis, basketball courts, a weight room, cardio equipment, an outdoor swimming pool, two exercise studios, beach volleyball courts, tennis courts, an indoor and outdoor track, sauna and a grass field. It is a great benefit for LLU employees and a good deal for seniors, but I probably wouldn't buy a membership at the regular community price (2.5 times the senior price at the time of this review) . The weight room has a really nice range of dumbbell weights, but it gets extremely crowded Monday-Thursday from 4pm -7pm. This makes working out after work inefficient and unpleasant. After the renovations a couple years ago, I felt they made the weight room even less functional. They reduced the number of bench presses from 4-5 adjustable benches to one fixed incline bench and two fixed flat benches. You will often have to wait to use the squat racks, bench press and the benches by the dumbbells. They tend to be closed on many major holidays and some times even a couple days before or after the holiday.
    Kibishii B.: ★★★
I have been a Drayson Center member for a year now and, for the most part, I am very happy with the facility. However, there is one major complaint I have about the gym considering that LLU encourages a healthy lifestyle (see con #1).Pros:*Indoor running track (this was a big sell for me) *3 indoor basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball, baseball field, ping-pong, racketball, etc *Very clean *Friendly staff who are constantly cleaning *Many different group programs & activities* *Huge variety of strength machines (I hate free weights) *Huge variety of cardio machines *WiiFii *wide range of members since they are part of a University/Hospital *great locker rooms/showers/saunaCons:*BY FAR the biggest con- the are closed ALOT. They close early on Friday (3 PM), are closed every Saturday (SDA), any holiday they can be closed multiple days in a row (today is New Year's EVE and they are closed!), and they can be closed for school events. This can make it very difficult for people who work *Cost is quite expensive for non University members *The waterpark is only open to kids during the summer
    Ethan N.: ★★★
You're probably only reading this if you're in the area temporarily and have a friend who is a member of the gym through their affiliation with the university. So hopefully that applies to you. It's a really solid gym that has everything. Granted, nothing that it has is GREAT, but it does have everything. The weight room is the biggest weakness. It's small and often very crowded. There's only a small window between 2 PM and 3:30 PM where you can get a solid workout efficiently. Otherwise you have to go early in the morning. The good news is that most people who work out there are pretty cool, willing to spot you, and don't mind sharing equipment as long as you maintain gym etiquette. The cardio equipment is a little more complete in terms in quantity and variety. They have a sign up system that limits you to 30 minutes, but people use it spottily despite the threat that their membership can be revoked if they don't.There are two class areas that you can use when there isn't a class which is nice for doing stuff like sit-ups, lunges, planks, stretching, all that. But these rooms are only open on the off hours and they have quite a bit of equipment in there. So when there ARE classes you can't go in and get the swiss ball you need ... lame. The outdoor track is pretty nice and you can get a great run without feeling crowded by other people. It goes around a sports field which is often used by intramural teams, so you can sometimes get a little show while running. There is also an indoor track, but it's not great. It's 1/10th of a mile so you get bored fast. It's also populated by an army of people walking slowly and randomly wandering diagonally across lanes, making running a bit of an obstacle course. The basketball courts are okay. They are well maintained, but unlike the weight room the people who frequent it are pretty awful. The old guys are really rude and feel entitled to doing whatever they want. They outright lie about having signed up for courts and treat others like crap. Most of the younger guys are pricks too, acting WAY too competitive for their talent level. These guys think they're the next Kobe, except Kobe usually isn't a total douche. The tennis courts are pretty nice and easy to land if you make a reservation in advance. The locker rooms are just okay. I obviously can only comment on the guys' locker room, and it's a bit musty and awkward. There is always a squadron of old men who walk around naked and try to start up a conversations with you while drying their nether regions. It's odd, because they are sitting there naked when I GET to the gym and when I'm LEAVING they are still there ... sitting ... naked. Weird man, weird. They also have ping pong, racquetball, and a couple of pools. I haven't used them so I can't comment. It's a cheap option compared to day passes to 24 hour fitness. Depending on what you're looking for, this might just be for you.

As a whole, really nice. Just for pickleball? Really bad. If you come as a solo you'll feel left out and get no games. People already have their own groups. Disappointing system.

I usually limit my reviews to restaurants but given this is where I come to amend for my excessive eating I decided I would give it a review.I will start with the good. I don't have to pay for it since I am a student at Loma Linda University. This is of course what keeps me coming back (that and the calories for stuffing myself at ciao bella). The facility is always clean and is attractive. I am not familiar with the classes, but they have racquetball courts, tennis courts, a gym, indoor and outdoor tracks, a large field, weights, and treadmills, star climbers, ect. The workers are usually friendly and the equipment is maintained. So why 2 stars? First, the hours are not that good. The gym is Seventh-day Adventist so it closes early on Friday and is closed on Saturday. If it is a holiday weekend (labor day, memorial day, ect.) it is closed for the entire weekend - Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. I understand that workers like time off but I bet a lot of people would like to come in over that time to exercise or play some basketball or whatever. They are also closed for school events such as graduations that are sometimes held there. Sometimes during the summer the pool is closed for private parties. I consider this to be unforgivable. Members are paying for that pool during regular hours (for some members I know it is a benefit but ultimately you are paying for it). I show up planning on swimming some laps and the pool is closed. Maybe a notice had been up a few days ahead of time and I hadn't noticed but that doesn't justify it. The pool should be available for members during regular hours. Another issue I have is that the weight and cardio rooms are not adequate for the membership. Luckily for me I can control my schedule to come in at off hours, but if you go in around 5pm it is going to be packed. You have to grab any open machine or weight you see. The facility has lots of open space which helps the aesthetics but I don't come to a gym for the aesthetics. Expand the overcrowded areas! A gym should be designed to be reasonably full at peak hours not stuffed to the point that coming then is a waste of time. I also feel they skimp on some of the basics in the weight room like a decline bench press or more than one squat rack. These things would not be expensive compared to the fancy machines they put in. Having said that if you like a video game/stationary bike they did just put 2 of those in. My point being that a gym should buy the basics before expensive showy equipment. While the workers are friendly, the management knows that I will keep coming because I don't want to pay for another gym membership so they don't really care about the problems.Well I've probably written too much. Bottom line: if you would have to pay full price I'd strongly recommend another gym unless you have a compelling reason to choose the Drayson center. However, many people can get discounts so then you have to choose. I'd say check out the YMCA if you live or work in Redlands.

Wonderful gym facility, LOTS of exercise classes offered here which change up about every 3 months. They have indoor basketball, indoor and outdoor sand volleyball, badminton, racquetball, virtual golf, indoor running track, beautiful outdoor lap pool and kids pool (beach entry style))with fun slide with summer swim classes offered, and jacuzzi, sauna, 2 tennis courts, and 18 pickleball courts!- excellent pickleball competition here. Pickleball classes and lessons offered. I just joined just to play with the excellent variety of pickle players. The staff are friendly and facility well maintained and they even recently got some new gym equipment. Because it's part of the university they often offer free health screenings by students and free seminars offered by the health professionals from LLU which are very informative.
