Memorial Park Pickleball Courts

4 lighted tennis courts divided into 16 pickleball courts with portable nets in Memorial Park in Santa Monica, Caifornia. 16 pickleball courts are set up for games to be played on a rotation basis using the paddle stacking system to queue into games. Just put your paddle next to the net of the court you wanna play on, there isn’t one giant communal paddle rack. Courts get pretty crowded in the evening. Restrooms are nice and clean. Electric vehicle charging station available at parking lot. First come, first served when not in use for city programs or approved permits. The park includes the Memorial Park Gym, which is popular for drop-in sports like basketball, and the Police Activities League Youth Center.

Courts Skill Level

Pickleball courts are divided by skill level: beginner, intermediate, advanced. Beginners and Advanced Beginner will have designated courts (look for sign on net).
Court 4 has designated Challenge nets. Advanced/4.0+ (north side) has 2 nets. Intermediate/3.25-3.75 (south side) has 2 nets.

Drop-in Pickleball

Sessions are held on Mondays through Thursdays, 5:00 – 9:30 pm; Saturdays and Sundays have a morning session at 8 to 11 am and a midday session at 11:15 am to 2 pm (all players will be asked to leave the courts between sessions).

Monday night, Wednesday night, Saturday morning and Sunday morning are great pickleball days with 12 courts and a good range of various level plays. A lot of traffic here so getting a parking space is a challenge. Restroom is by the softball field so you do have to roam around when nature calls.
Jackie Quinn: ★★★★★
The SM pickleball club at Memorial Park is excellent! So well run and friendly welcoming folks. I've been dropping in SM for a week at a time and makes a perfect stopover on my travels to NZ.
JD Evans: ★★★★
Pickleball is great here! They have an online system to register but if you don’t get a spot your still likely able to show up and join. Up to 16 courts and there are lots of people of all levels playing together. Both casual and competitively. Also on site is a skate park but it’s paid entry for an outdoor park which is Wack. They also have a gym facility for pickup basketball.
Mellyn Gilmore: ★★★★★
We’re visiting parents in LA- Pacific Palisades to be exact; we haven’t had luck scoring pickle ball courts in Pali but we found Memorial Park. They have a plethora of Pickleball courts; in the evening after 8-ish use for no charge. Every time we’ve been, courts are packed but people are very friendly & go by the same etiquette one would expect paddles have a place for holding space, etc.

Amazing community of Pickleball players! Search up Santa Monica Pickleball Club for more information! Bathrooms are a bit dodgy! Parking can be a pain- look for the additional lot behind the dog park. Also, ample street parking in the neighborhood if you don't mind walking.

This is a great little park. I play pickleball at the courts here almost every Saturday and Sunday. They typically have between 12-16 courts open during Open Play. Open Play is from MW from 5pm-9:30pm and SS 8am-11am and 11am-2pm. The community is very nice and it's a great way to meet people. Definitely recommend reserving in advance online else you may be in a for a wait--especially if it's a nice day. If you love pickleball and live in the area, this will quickly become your new weekly hangout.
Doreen M: ★★★★★
Came here for pickleball! Has a parking lot, restrooms, and a gym, playground, baseball field, tennis courts and a good pickleball community. Saw an A list celeb here too!
Kris H: ★★★★
Quality park for pickleball and tennis. I frequent memorial park to play pickleball. The city offers open play sessions on Monday & Wednesday nights from 5-9:30pm for 3 dollars if you're a resident of Santa Monica and 5 dollars if not and also on Saturdays & Sundays from 8-11am & 11am-2pm for the same rates. I've also attended their open gym volleyball indoor sessions on Sundays from 1-6pm. The city took over running the courts pickleball sessions and I have not had an issue with them at all. Now that they are running it, I hope they can invest in getting brighter lights for night play since they are getting money now.
Haley H: ★★★★★
Regular basketball gym with tennis/pickle ball courts, a skate part and soccer facilities. This park has everything. The staff inside the basketball gym is always nice and friendly !
Sue H: ★★★★
Never have been a fan of the parking lot. The parking is the worst around. It's to small considering the size of the park. Not sure how this parking lot size was approved. Other than that it has a lot to offer. Gym, tennis court and base ball diamond.
Joan S: ★★★★
I stopped here today to take photos 'cause I remembered somebody had reviewed this park. And that's when I discovered an awesome skate park. Wow, there was one guy skating there, an older guy, who might have been somebody famous. All eyes were on him, he was that good. Wish I'd asked who he was. Anyways, I didn't have much time to explore, and Joey pretty much covered the park in his review. So I'll just say that, if I counted right, there are 6 ball fields and 4 tennis courts in addition to the large skate park and a smallish kids' playground. Then there is a huge gym, apparently with basketball and volleyball, but I didn't see the inside. A posted sign says you can rent it (see my 20 photos for details on that and other stuff ). Free parking in the lot.
Josh W: ★★★★
Almost perfect park. Played baseball for a quite a few years there. Playground is ok when the little kids are quite and not get out of control and the parents don't bother telling them to stop. There's a tennis court there that can get busy and an skate park that is busy. 3 major upgrades to the park that should be done is put in an outdoor basketball court, more Picnic benches, and that snack bar should be open more and make more breakfast, lunch and dinner options.
Mark H: ★★★★★
This is a great park. They have awesome baseball fields, skate park & great tennis courts. The bathrooms are decent. The food is exceptional & they have healthy options. The park has a lot with free parking & metered parking on both sides of the road. It is really convenient to come & go. It is safe & clean and a nice place to bring your family & your fur baby
Sokey A: ★★★★
I'm a fan of Memorial Park's gym. SM adult volleyball league plays here and the gym's pretty solid. They have two parking lots and street parking, so finding a place to park is never an issue. They also have tennis courts, baseball field, and a skate park. Lots of things to do here.
Justin W: ★★★★
This is a pretty sweet place for a father with a very young child to visit. Technically, she is not old enough for the playground, but that does not stop us. In fact, with the playground not being one of the 'bigger' ones in Santa Monica, with a little help she can play rather safe and sound. The foam ground is also great for someone as young as her. As far as the tennis courts, skate park, and softball/baseball fields go, while I have not used them, they look like a lot of fun. One downside of this plays come from the hobo population. I have nothing against people who smoke marijuana, I do think it sucks that more often than not, some crusty hobo is puffing within a few feet of the playground. Perhaps it is just luck for when I am going, but don't be a turd. If you want to smoke weed, smoke it across the street at Snyder Diamond instead.
Brettney P: ★★★★★
This park is easily bypassed when driving by it however hidden behind it's seemingly lack luster exterior is a community sports complex of tennis courts, baseball field, indoor basktball court, skate park, fitness gym, a coveted fenced in playground, and perhaps other things I have yet to discover in this park. The grounds are kept immaculate in part by those who partake of it take care of it. The areas of this park I enjoy are the playground (with my kidlet ) and the fitness center which are wonderful though on the petite side. However this isn't a problem since they don't get too much traffic during the week. There is a small fee to use the fitness center and you need to go to the front desk to say hello to the awesome people who work there, pay the fee, and get the wrist band. Be sure to check the park website for hours of the fitness center etc.

Pickleball courts are pretty busy. There is a fee 3 per person for residents 5 per for non residents.
Stephen Hager: ★★★
It's one of the only free pickleball courts in the greater West LA area. These courts were very crowded. 12 courts, 2 groups of 4 waiting to play on each court, so if you go, be prepared to wait a while between games. Was there 2+ hours, got 3 games in.
Rian Weston-Dodds: ★★★
The tennis courts area is in disrepair. The lights suck, the fences are rusty and the walls are messed up a bit. But the Pickleball community is great here, so I play. Also, no permanent nets, only temporary :( Another issue is that there’s always homeless people using/sleeping/crowding around the bathrooms, and the bathrooms are also often dirty or not in the best shape. But on the upside is that they have decent bathrooms! Which is better than nothing. I want to rate it higher because it has such a great Pickleball community (every morning, and M/W evenings, as well as others), but I’m not sure I can.
Josh Walters: ★★★
Memorial Park is a small but decent park. Pros: small (smallest in the city I believe) dog park/run, plenty of baseball and softball fields, skatepark, little kid playground, tennis courts, and basketball court. Cons: Only a couple park tables and benches (which is sometimes taken over or surrounded by homeless). Lack of shade throughout the park (mainly around the baseball fields). The mini snack shop is only open during baseball. Would be nice if it could be open throughout the week or certain days on a limited hours basis like 11-2 or 11-3. Proceeds could go to the Little League, and miscellaneous stuff around the park.

I visited this place and it was small but the tennis courts are always open but i found a lot of kids and eggs there. Is that from the pal?

Leave some spots for normal tennis!!
Felicia Markfield: ★★
Pickleball courts not beginner friendly. I felt like the players and staff were rude when I said I was new to pickleball. Additionally, it was not clear from the website when free vs. paid play was and staff were inconsistent about where you could and couldn’t play. Really discouraging for someone trying to start a new hobby.
The Ho: ★
Pickleball is not free here, city taking advantage of a popular sport by trying to penny dime the community of LA
Sheila Shenasi: ★
So dirty the tennis courts and infested w fleas and rats. City doesn't take care of this park.
