I was looking for Pickleball places to take some lessons. I had my first one today, the Jumpstart 1.0 and loved it. There were six of us in the group, and the session lasted for an hour and a half. Cade who was our instructor taught us the basics and rules. We learned terms, rally, volley and how to serve. The last half hour we were able to play a few games as we switched players every so often. I learned a pretty good lesson today where if the ball goes onto the other court where other people are playing. You should say "ball on" to give them a heads up. I wasn't aware of that considering I wasn't the person that hit the ball over. So, that is very important to know. I found out after the fact. What I really liked is that all the beginners were very supportive of each other. I would like to try the Live Ball Early Intermediate next time. Also, this place has a lot of choices for paddles and shoes. I only wish they had more clothing pieces in larger sizes.

Honestly my fave place ever. I’ve been going regularly to the live ball and skills classes as well as renting courts with friends and have learned a ton in just 8 months! It is pricey but the coaches are great and get to know you and try to help improve you so I think it’s far worth it. It’s also just a really fun time. The live ball classes are high energy and fun! They helped me upgrade my paddle to a better one. I recommend trying pickleball here!

As my pickleball addiction continues to grow I needed to step up my game with a new paddle in hopes of leveling up. I was recommended to check out the SM Pickleball Center and I was not disappointed. The staff was so helpful and friendly and had great suggestions for paddles based on the info I provided them. On top of that, they have a little "dink" court in their store to demo the variety of paddles and offer professional advice. While there I had the pleasure of checking out their 4 BEAUTIFUL courts in the back. I was so impressed I immediately made a reservation and later brought 3 other friends. We had such a good time playing here and I can't wait to go back. The friendly staff, the extensive collection of equipment, and the perfect courts. This is a can't miss if you're a new or seasoned pickleball player!

Tried a demo pickleball paddle $10 for 3 days. Ricky was a tremendous help giving me options for my play style -- they have a solid selection.

I love to come to the Santa Monica Pickleball Center Clinics with Coach Julio, best drill clinics in town. Each time I learn new skills and improved strategies. Their courts are the most beautiful & professional ones in town. I encourage anyone who has never been there, to check them out.

A great selection of gear, friendly, knowledgeable, staff, reasonable prices, and offer lessons for all skill levels. What more could I want in the shop!

Ricky was such a kind dude and super helpful. We stayed for almost two hours trying to decide what paddles to get and he was very patient in trying to walk us through. We ended up leaving with multiple items and will be back soon!

I've been coming to the pickleball center for the past year or so to get equipment. They always have the best selection (sometimes there will be paddles that are completely sold out everywhere online, but Jon will still have them in the shop). I've started renting out courts recently and its hands down the best place to play in town. The courts are now fully dedicated pickleball. The lines and nets are both great. The lights are so good that when I go back to memorial at night I can't even believe I used to play there🤣 Overall if you're trying to play some proper pickle, this is the place for it.
Vanessa Desrochers: ★★★★★
Santa Monica Pickleball Center is the best! In addition to their top notch inventory of paddles and rackets, their pickleball play behind the shop which consists of 4 courts is where it is at. They have something for everyone of all skill levels and everyone who works there is amazing. It is a community in itself!!

Left half of the store is pickleball stuff and the right side of the store is tennis stuff. They have a small indoor pickleball court just to test out paddles and balls and stuff. They have shoes, merch, and paddles for all your pickleball needs. In the back of the store they have four pickleball courts, I went there on a sunday and looks like you can sign up and play with others for free. I didn't see a fee, but must have tennis shoes on to play. You can also rent gear if need be. I was inquiring for bday to host something here. It is not cheap and you can definitely email the store for prices weather it's for two courts in the back or all four courts. It is an hourly rate. There's parking in the back or street parking.

I came to this place recently for a clinic to learn how to play pickleball. Having no prior experience with the game I didn’t know anything about the game, the paddles, etc. and the people who were working there that day were so informative and spent the time showing me and explaining things to me about the different paddles, which were the best, etc. thank you!

Having attended Liveball clinics at Santa Monica Pickleball Center (SMPC) a few times over my last couple of visits to LA, my experience has been mixed and heavily influenced by both the players and coaches present. While Liveball has the potential to be a fast-paced and engaging format, SMPC’s approach lacks some of the qualities typically associated with a welcoming and effective pickleball clinic. First and foremost, the atmosphere could be friendlier to newcomers. Unlike many pickleball communities that create an inclusive vibe, SMPC could benefit from fostering a more welcoming environment for visitors. While the clinics are priced and presented as coaching sessions, the level of actual coaching provided is minimal. Rules are communicated—like hitting the ball softly—yet these guidelines are inconsistently enforced, particularly with more competitive players. This leads to situations where the spirit of the game feels compromised, and even safety becomes a concern as balls are fed in while others are still in play or when players are not fully ready. Throughout each session, coaches occasionally stop play, huddling up before shifting players between courts. Unfortunately, feedback about these moves typically only comes afterward, making the critiques feel somewhat insincere. Feedback during play, where players can actually apply advice, would be far more constructive. Additionally, there seems to be a pattern of more vocal players being moved up, while quieter players, myself included, are often moved down, regardless of consistent performance. Despite returning to SMPC with a better skill level (now competing at 4.0) and experience from various other clinics, I find these sessions fall short of creating a productive learning environment. Instead of fostering improvement, the lack of guidance often encourages bad habits. My recent visits only solidified this impression; the first two sessions were enjoyable but lacked challenge, while the last experience was so frustrating that I left early. With more options opening up in Los Angeles, I feel there are better alternatives for open play and Liveball pickleball that offer both a welcoming vibe and a reasonable price. For regulars who might build rapport with the coaches over time, these issues may be less significant, but for visitors looking for an uplifting and effective coaching experience, SMPC could improve significantly. I hope that with time, SMPC can refine their approach to create a more inclusive and growth-oriented environment.

DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE. I paid for a new paddle, and they handed it to me in a sealed cover—only for me to later discover it was actually an old demo paddle. Completely dishonest. On top of that, while customers are playing and leaving their things court-side, one of the employees has been stealing personal belongings. Management is covering for it. I’ve never felt so misled or violated at a sports facility. Avoid this place at all costs until they clean house.

Terrible experience. I went in to purchase two of the new Gearbox Ultimate paddles (which they had in stock) but both of the workers were very disinterested in helping me. I looked for 15 minutes for a demo version of the paddle until before finally getting the help from an employee (who had no idea what he was doing). He looked around briefly until he said, “well it looks like we don’t have a demo.” A few minutes later, the employee went on break so a different (and older) guy took over the front desk so I was hoping to finally get some decent help. I asked him for assistance in finding a demo of the gearbox ultimate paddle upon which he pointed and said, “if we have it then it’s over there.” I told him that I couldn’t find it and that it’s a newly released paddle so there should be a demo. He then looked in his system and said someone checked out the paddle and that it’d be back tomorrow…first of all no one should be able to checkout and leave with the only demo of a brand new and popular paddle. Secondly, I drove 2 hours away to try out the paddle so not having it there was a shame. I then grabbed a couple different paddles for my wife and I to try out on the courts in back but the employee stopped us and said we couldn’t because all the courts were reserved (2 were empty at the time). All in all it was one thing after another. I drove 2 hours prepared to spend $1000 on new gear but instead left frustrated and annoyed. Hopefully the owner sees this so he can get some new employees who care about the customers.

After buying paddles from this place before and being pretty happy, my husband and I went back because I wanted a paddle just like his—the one with the longer handle that seemed just right. So, I took his paddle to the store, hoping to get the exact same one. The person there handed me what they claimed was the same paddle but 'even better and sturdier.' Trusting their word, I went for it. Turns out, this 'better' paddle was actually heavier and started giving me wrist pain right away. When I brought it back, all they offered was store credit, making it sound like they were doing me a big favor. Honestly, it felt like they missed the point. They gave me wrong info, I ended up with something I didn't want, and now I'm stuck with store credit. I'm really not happy about how this went down, and I probably won't shop there again. Just a heads up to anyone thinking about getting their gear from them.

Stuck up people with overpriced garbage. The owner was extremely rude and condescending. Definitely the place to go if you feel like having your day runied

I almost never leave reviews. As a neighbour to the store, I walked in asked a question and they were rude and laughed at me. One tall blonde girl was very arrogant and dismissive. Imagine if they saving lives how they would behave.
