Best Pickleball courts in Penn Valley, Nevada County for 2026

Western Gateway Park Pickleball Courts in Penn Valley

10 new dedicated pickleball courts now occupy the former tennis court location at Western Gateway Park. Technically nine courts, with the tenth being allocated as an area for people to sit around, because all nine courts are expected to be busy at some point during the day. It will be an area for people to hang out, watch the tournaments and/or wait for their time to play. The courts now have gravel walkways and designated shade areas, as well as additional parking.

These beautiful new courts were completely funded by the Grass Valley Pickleball Club. In exchange, members have some courts reserved between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM. Free lessons are available through the club. If you’ve found other area courts to be crowded and in demand, you’ll appreciate the ease of use and the beautiful setting of these courts. Call the park office +1 530-432-1990 for court information. Come out and play! The club is offering free lessons to community members. Free parking lot beside the courts. Restrooms available in Western Gateway Park.

Great, well maintained and community loved park in Penn Valley. On Sunday they have a Farmers Market with regional artisan food vendors with picnic tables under a solar canopy. Playground: Nice well maintained modern playground. Restrooms: Clean restrooms. Picnic area: Covered and tree shaded picnic areas
Michael Adel: ★★★★★
Our pickleball courts are looking good! Restrooms: None. Yet
Kevin Beard: ★★★★★
Playground: Two big playgrounds. Restrooms: It's very clean, but can use an upgrade. Dog-friendliness: Very friendly, it has a dog park. Picnic area: Plenty of picnic areas
Ross Burton: ★★★★★
Great disc golf course. Super fun! Awesome views! Can't wait to go back!
Linda C Rose: ★★★★★

Raven Warren: ★★★★★
We love this park. I can easily be here all day. Between the trails and paths, play grounds, disc golf course, dog park, two stages, AND THE RIVER!!! I mean what more could you ask for. There's lots of covered space for events, benches to relax, there's bochi ball courts, basketball courts, I believe there's even a community room to rent. There's a top and bottom playground tho currently it's closed off due to river damage but you can still get down there... The only "con" is the bathroom are in the main parking lot or dog park and hardly any of the water fountains work! But, if you're open to making it work, the parks worth it! Did I mention they have tennis courts and baseball fields??? During the summer there are concerts etc... definitely an all around all year lo g fun place to be. Maybe I'll see you there!?
Rude Boi: ★★★★★
Super Nice place for walks. Has a dog park past the disk golf area, children's playgrounds (2), basketball court and baseball fields in the very back of park. Playground: A newer one up front and the older original elephant theme one in the middle before the creek area. Restrooms: Yes a couple of them. Dog-friendliness: Dog park is available. Picnic area: Many places to choose for a picnic.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5-Star Review for Western Gateway Park, Penn Valley, CA. Western Gateway Park is hands down one of my favorite parks! It’s absolutely beautiful, with well-maintained trails, lush greenery, and plenty of open space to relax and enjoy nature. Whether you’re taking a peaceful walk, having a picnic, or just soaking in the scenery, this park is the perfect escape. One of the best things about this place is the friendly community—everyone here is so welcoming, which makes the experience even better. It’s the kind of park that makes you want to stay all day! I can’t wait for spring to go back and see everything in full bloom. If you’re ever in Penn Valley, this park is a must-visit! 🌿✨

Needs to be cleaned, Uncontrolled dogs near play areas, Dog mess everywhere, Play structures are in need of repairs & cleaning. Beautiful location & facility, whoever is doing the groundskeeping is slacking & dog owners need to step up on their responsibilities....
Cathy K: ★★★
Bathrooms need toilet paper covers over the rolls. Lights dont come on. Floor always wet. Very uneasy feeling. Restrooms: Lighting needed
AM Outside: ★★★
Big park in Penn Valley. Access to Squirrel Creek, big playground, huge field, lots of picnic tables that are covered, amphitheater. Nothing particularly scenic or outstanding but it's a decent park. There's a farmer's market there once a week.
Z S: ★★★
It's always fun that this spot loses two stars for nudists. Go to a river, not an area where kids frequent!
Negative Reviews:
elena wolfbrandt: ★
Went here for the playground, which is terrible for toddlers! It's so broken down, with slides that are broken and blocked off with plywood. There are no swings either. I could see this playground working for bigger kids, but we were very disappointed. Playground: There is a play structure for 2-5 year olds but it's old and lame - no slide or swings, just stairs and a couple of broken music elements. The playground for bigger kids has a small broken slide, and the other slides are really big/steep. Kids warned me that the bumpy slide hurt.
Asia Tully: ★
someone needs to fire the old dude who closes weekends. watched the only Hispanic family in the park get kicked out for being there too late when there were multiple white families he barely talked to
Spencer Fox: ★
They keep cutting down nice oak tree
