Best Tennis and Pickleball courts in Foster City, San Mateo County for 2026

Foster City Tennis and Pickleball Courts

6 busy pickleball courts (some open play, some reserved), 2 tennis courts in Leo J. Ryan Memorial Park in Foster City. Each court has a paddle queue. Waiting time is reasonable. Good number of courts where the wait is not long and organized. Courts are right beside Central lake. Lights are on til 10 pm. Online reservation.

The courts can be slippery, as they needed to be hosed down to remove accumulated dust and dirt.

Lighting is a bit disturbing that one side of the court is always facing the lights directly.

General Foster City reservation system: during the daytime, the 3 lake-side courts are reservable by Foster City residents, so the courts on the other side are where free play happens. After 7 pm or so all 6 courts are open to all, and that side is usually higher level. Higher level players are now at local club, but do visit occasionally.

As long as the weather is good, people will be there with 30 minutes of the sun coming up, and there will be groups playing until 10 pm. It is super crowded on weekdays after 7 pm. Gets pretty crowded on most weeknights and weekends like other lit tennis courts in the area.

Parking is easy, there is ample nearby parking. Restrooms are on the other side of the lake, inside community center.

Six busy courts. Lights on til ten pm. As long as the weather is good, people will be there with 30 minutes of the sun coming up, and there will be groups playing until 10pm. Each court has a paddle queue, so pick one which looks good to you and join in! Update Nov 2024: courts are still busy. Parking is a bit harder because the main lot is half under construction. As long as the weather is remotely dry you can find people here from dawn to ten pm. Following is the original review If you're a beginner you can play in, and people will play or warm up with you and teach you. If you find you're consistently much weaker, it's polite to try to find a more balanced group. But, 90% of the people only started playing in the last few years and we remember what that's like, so don't be shy about joining the line. You have the right to play, too. Details: 1) Surprise reservations: About one day a month there can be reservations here for events/tournaments/etc but it's very rare. At those times it's usually not full day - normally, just 9-5pm, or just 5pm-10. There are sometimes reservations for the 3 lake-side courts nights from 6-10 for leagues (which you can join if you have a team, and you'll get 10 sessions or so per season.) 2) general Foster City reservation system: during the daytime, the 3 lake-side courts are reservable by Foster City residents, so the courts on the other side are where free play happens. After 6pm or so all 6 courts are open to all, and that side is usually higher level.

These pickleball courts were so much fun! We had such a great time playing and experiencing this side of the park. There were so many dogs walking along the river trail near the pickleball courts and it was fun to walk around after playing pickleball. The water is really beautiful and you can see it from the courts. This place is really popular because it's right next to the senior center so it was pretty busy on the weekend. There were lots of people who were playing pickleball but we were able to jump in and have a few games. The weather was perfect as always. Very fun place to play pickleball!
Avo Simonian: ★★★★★
6 phenomenal pickle ball courts. Need to place a reservation online unless you get lucky. Two tennis courts adjacent to the pickleball courts without the pickleball courts lines. We called the place and they confirmed it’s okay to use the tennis courts for pickleball. Totally worth checking it out right by the water.
Johnathan Sykes: ★★★★
Nice courts, people are a little pushy when trying to start a new game.
KGQ NYC: ★★★★
Nice recreation center with plenty to do to support an active lifestyle. Pickle ball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, and skatepark that doubles as a fun bike park for younger kiddos. There’s a pretty lake that people and pets can walk around but beware of goose droppings that you must dodge if you care about the treads of your shoes. A nice community center has bathrooms and classes for all ages.

Cool.place to hangout

Courts are currently quite dusty, which makes them slippery and not safe for quick movements and more serious play.

Waiting time is reasonable, but the lighting is a bit disturbing that one side of the court is always facing the lights directly.

Gets pretty crowded on most weeknights and weekends like other lit tennis courts in the area. But, it's safe and clean with ample nearby parking. Only 2 courts which have lights auto turn on about 6pm. Restrooms are on the other side of the lake though.

This park was really fun to play at and enjoy over our weekend. The pickle ball courts we're perfect for our needs and we were able to play together using the facilities. There's a skate park attached in the surrounding area where lots of kids were skating on scooters and skateboards. There were lots of dogs and people walking up and down the trail along the water. It is so picturesque at any time of the day but especially during sunset. This place was great!
D Gman: ★★★★★
Awesome place for Pickleball. Six courts and many people to play with in the morning and evening. Afternoon is quieter between 2pm to 5pm, most people are working and hotter from the mid day sun. All levels, from beginners to intermediate. Higher level players are now at local club, but do visit occasionally. Restrooms: Inside community center.
Harrison Kho: ★★★★★
Great park with multiple activities like basketball, pickleball courts, a little scooter/skate park. Other parts were under construction when we went but looks like they're adding more fun things to do.
Mimi Artates: ★★★★★
A beautiful place for a picnic. The water edge is gorgeous. The restrooms are far from the pickleball area.
Christina Jain: ★★★★★
Beautiful spot for a stroll and tons of activities available too: pickleball, tennis, basketball, skate park (little kids zoom around it in the mornings), water sports rental, teen center, senior center, and also a library nearby. Amazing public space. Public restrooms are in the center of the park near the amphitheater.

Very good park until the Geese gang pays a visit through the park. It has been better this year till now. Good for jogging, walking. Has a tennis/pickle ball court.
Alysa Stanford: ★★★★★
Clean bathrooms, nicely manicured, people are nice, lots of recreation options. Used the pickleball and handball courts. Walked by the Off the Grid thing - looked cool. There were people on boat looking things tethered to the boardwalk. Not sure what that was about but looked cool. Much better than East Bay parks
B. Lee: ★★★★★
Went on a Sunday and played pickleball and rode bikes along the river. It was a great time.
Nicolle Baria: ★★★★★
I work in the area. This is a beautiful place to walk on breaks. There are concerts community events every week. I decided to spend 4th of July here, and I was not expecting the crowd! They had live music, carnival rides, food trucks, and a decent fireworks show. You can rent boats, kayaks, play bocce ball, pickle ball, and there's even a skate park.
Robert Rothrock: ★★★★★
A fantastic pickleball venue. A great mix of players, and the courts are spectacular. The winds pick up after noon, but calm down in the evening. Definitely worth swinging by for a game.

This is a beautiful place to visit. It's a great place for picnics. The weather is usually very nice. There are tennis courts. You can also rent things like boats kayaks and paddleboards nearby. There are plenty of geese and ducks to see. You can have fun walking skating or riding your bike on the nice paths there. Check the clubhouse there for the many activities available. They even have concerts and carnivals... also, their Fourth of July fireworks night is a can't miss! A great place to be! :-)
Dorotea Lombardi: ★★★★★
Great place for talking walks with great view of the water and landscape. Area where you can rent kayaks. There's also a bocce ball courts, tennis courts, tennis wall, basketball court. There are picnic tables and chairs. Shady lawn area to lay a blanket on. Place is very clean and safe.
Trish L.: ★★★★★
Awesome views of the water, geese and ducks. Also has a gazebo with benches for shade, picnic tables, tennis courts, a rec center, and a separate rec center called the Vibe for teens with a skate park and basketball area. There's also a place to rent boats, paddleboards, kayaks, etc if you want to explore on the water.
Dharmendra Tomar: ★★★★
A very beautiful park with playground, basketball and tennis court and scenic view around the lake. Didn’t stay there till dusk but can imagine that it will look more beautiful. You can enjoy the walk around the lake which seems like a closed walk both the sides. In the middle there is a Gazebo which is a nice point for the photography or just look around the lake from there.
Selima Rajab: ★★★★★
Lovely park with sitting benches, washroom, tennis court, library and a lake. Generally very well designed park with interesting monuments. I specifically loved the three girls on a log monument!
lets note: ★★★★
Parking is available. Pick ball is very popular but not so much for tennis.
Manoj Reddy: ★★★★★

Adam Gee: ★★★★
Nice place to take a stroll and enjoy the day watching water birds frolic in in the lagoon, and during certain periods, Jelley fish rising to the surface, and on sunning days, picnic or lay on the abundant grass lawns, soaking in the sun. Park is well groomed and maintained. Restrooms are available in a separate building and within the recreation center in which is located a senior center, a Chinese school, dance pottery, dance and exercise classes are conducted. Park has bocce ball, basketball and tennis courts and even a boat rental if you want to kayak in the lagoon. Plenty of free parking spaces in the three parking lots with handicap parking spaces in each. Entire park, including buildings, are handicap accessible. Dogs are allowed on leash and animal droppings must be picked up and disposed correctly. Playground No children jungle gyms, slides or swings. Does have a skateboard area, tennis and basketball courts and a boat rental. Restrooms Restrooms available in Recreation Center and in a separate facility near amphitheater. Dog-friendliness Leash and poop pickup required. Bags available in dispensers. Picnic area Lots of nice lawn area nicely maintained with a few tables by the lake. Picnic area by military memorial on slight hill has tables for large groups.
Gina Cuneo: ★★★★★
Really nice park that is right on the water. There are 6 pickel ball courts open every day from around 9am-9pm. A sign on the park says you can rent paddles and balls from the recreation center but I did not try, so I cannot verify. There is also around 2 tennis courts, a basketball court, and a skate board park there as well. You can easily launch any kayak/paddle board/wind surfer/boat or any other item you can use in the water. You can also rent kayaks, standup paddle boards, windsurfers, and paddle boats.
Olivia Ponedel: ★★★★★
Great place to kayak and take a walk. Plenty of parking spaces but will be tight on weekends. Lots of people come here to camp, kayak, paddling or walking on sunny days. Also basketball, tennis court on site. Also convenient spot to grab food right across the street with Safeway, CVS, five guys and Tpumps.
Jarrett Dooley (mrdooley): ★★★★★
Nice sprawling park along the lagoon. Go to the boat house for $10 paddle boat rental for thirty minutes, or windsurfing lessons, or canoe rental. It's a very nice walk, also next to skate park, lawn bowling, and basketball/tennis courts.
Ryan Lam: ★★★★★
Nicely maintained Foster City park, water front, plenty of lawn and shade for picnics, rental boats, kayaks, water sports. Also next to tennis courts, skate park, basketball courts, senior center, small amphitheater, includes a short wharf with a large serene gazebo jutting out into the water. Home to city wide events and where the popular city-sponsored fireworks launch from every 4th of July.
Billy Twine: ★★★★★
Great place to go play tennis or basketball they have a lake you can walk or you can rent out a boat to ride

Courts are usually full and people can get territorial because of that. Foster City residents can also make reservations that, if you don't have a court reserved, sometimes you'll go and there are none available due to the reservations.
Jimmy Hong: ★★★
Looks just resurfaced recently. Only two courts and you have to deal with the pickle ball and skateboard noise... Parking is easy.
Ibrahim Hozayen: ★★★
There are better courts around plus this is usually crowded with kids.. pros they have kids tennis courts
Kurt W: ★★★
Pickleball people are nice there, but they really need to convert the 2 empty tennis courts next to the pickleball courts.
Negative Reviews:

I pay taxes in San Mateo county for the parks. The reservation system is a joke. The same foursome stays on for two hours. These courts are not private. Maybe we should not let Foster City Residents use the Redwood City or Palo Alto Pickleball courts.
Ralph Simpson: ★★
From 6 tennis courts to just 2
Alex Kim: ★
Reservation system is terrible and they didn’t print our names out when we reserved it the day before
Chrisil Arackaparambil: ★
One party had all six courts reserved and wouldn’t share even when they weren’t using one of those. Rather unfriendly and they don’t have a system to share courts like we have had elsewhere which also builds community by mixing players.
Amy wang: ★★
Only free court after 7PM. super crowded on weekdays after 7PM. More than half of the time spend on waiting for spot
Shiraz Kanga: ★
Never able to get in. Too crowded
