Pickleball Waiting System

  • The 8 courts are divided into two groups of four, each with its own rack: “Competitive” and “Friendly”. The Competitive courts are the four northern courts (numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4), nearest the street, and the Friendly courts are the four southern courts (numbers 5, 6, 7, and 8), nearest the park. Each set of courts has its own paddle rack.
  • Those waiting shall place their paddle in the appropriate paddle rack the first available open slot, after the “Next” indicator. The Competitive rack fills from right to left, and the Friendly rack fills from left to right, so that the paddles nearest the court entrance gate
are next to play. The “Next” indicator shows who has the next game and is shifted away from the court entrance gate when the incoming players take the court.
  • If there are more players waiting to play than available spaces in the paddle rack, players shall wait by placing their paddles under the paddle rack on the ground. Waiting players should move their paddles to the rack as space becomes available.
  • Pickleball play is on a rotational basis when all courts are in use and players are waiting.
  • No new game can be started without checking the paddle rack for waiting players.
  • All players must fully vacate the court at the end of a game.
    • Players finishing a game must place their paddles in the paddle rack after vacating the court if they wish to play again.
    • Players may not have a paddle in the paddle rack and be playing simultaneously.
  • The next waiting group will take the vacated court. Groups must be 2 (singles) or 4 (doubles) players. All players must be present when their court becomes available.
    • Groups of 3 must immediately obtain a 4th player or relinquish the open court to the next group; however, they may continue to hold their place on the paddle rack while searching for a 4th player.
    • If a foursome that has 1, 2, or 3 paddles in front of them wishes not to split up their foursome they do not have to. They should place their paddles accordingly in the paddle rack and newer arriving players may place their paddle(s) in front of them.
    • Players may play a singles game even though players are waiting. They will signify they wish to play singles by putting their paddles in the first and third position of the same group of slots, as indicated by the color coding on the rack.

In the below diagram, the orange paddles are next up for a court and will play doubles. The blue paddles are waiting to play a singles game. The numbered paddles are newly arriving players, and the numbers illustrate the order in which they arrived and placed their paddles in the rack.

Positive Reviews:
Mike Davis: ★★★★★
Mostly nice friendly folks to play with. I like that 4 of the courts are designated as friendly and 4 designated as competitive. Each set has a paddle rack system for those waiting. If you are visiting and not sure, please ask how things work before putting your paddle in line. This is a very nice place to play and can get pretty busy on weekend days and after 4-5pm on weekdays. Cupertino Park District just redid the lines on 4 of the courts, so that is great. There are bathrooms right behind the bleachers.
Rommel Baylon: ★★★★★
Friendly crowd 8 courts. They break it up into friendly and competitive courts.
Heenal A: ★★★★
There were 8 courts and there was a system to get in line so teams can rotate in to play. There were people at different levels and we got there when there were open courts so we’re were able to grab a court and play so I’m not sure about the peak wait times. People are friendly and willing to ask/play doubles if you are looking for opponents.
Hank Shie: ★★★★★
Cupertino Memorial Park Pickleball location has 8 courts, 4 of the nets belong to city of Cupertino, and 4 belongs to Cupertino Pickleball Club. CPC volunteers help tape the courts and repair any net damages, so the condition of the court is very good. There is open play from 7:30am until lights out in the evening. Busy time is usually around 9am to 12pm, and from 6pm to lights out. Super friendly people, beginner to advanced players are all welcome. Cupertinos Park and Recreation will post new rules on August 19th, 2024 to move the pickleball trial at Memorial Park to official pickleball use. There are 4 friendly courts and 4 competitive courts with a queue rack system for each set of courts. It will be 4 on 4 off all the time, from morning to evening. Players will enter the courts on the bleacher side of the fence. This will help alleviate congestion on court and reduce people double or triple paddling down at the net to hog the court. There is also a WhatsApp group for Cupertino Pickleball Club where you get daily weather update and impromptu invites to play. Signs are posted around the courts for more information, but you can also ask any regulars.
DANNY LIN: ★★★★
Crowded during the Saturday sunset hours. The queue system seemed to work well.
D Yen: ★★★★★
Friendly & welcoming community, great place for anyone (beginners or intermediate) to drop in and play with others. 8 pickleball courts (4 competitive 4 friendly) overlayed on two tennis courts.
B N Guerrero: ★★★★★
An amazing welcoming community! Single players will always play by placing their paddle in the queuing racks. There are two queues for 4 courts each. One is for competitive play and the other one for friendly games. No hassle to be walking around trying to figure out where to put down your paddle. If you come up as a group, you can use a rubber band to keep your 2, 3 or 4 paddles together. The 4 on, 4 off system requires for you to play with the next single players if your group has less than 4 paddles in it. Waiting at the bleachers provides a great opportunity for you to socialize and meet other players.
Constance Chin: ★★★★★
Welcoming and friendly pickleball community. Nice bleachers for socializing/waiting. 8 courts of which 2 are challenge courts with its own queue rack. The 2 winners stay on for a maximum of 2 times on challenge court. There are also 6 open play courts also with a gueue system. The queues are located by the bleachers.
Albert Wu: ★★★★★
A Pickleball Utopia Community. People are so friendly and welcoming (in the mornings). Have been to many pickleball courts in many places. Memorial Park is the best. Courts are nice, and most importantly people are nice. A player had told me he had wondered what he could do after retirement. He said he had found the answer after playing pickleball here at Memorial Park.
Californian jam: ★★★★★

Vijay Gupta: ★★★★★
Friendly pickleball community with 8 layover courts
Rajiv Pathik: ★★★★★
Wonderful Group of people to play pickleball.
Steve Marelich: ★★★★★
Very nice park with tennis and pickle ball courts. The park bathroom was immaculate. I don't live in Cupertino, but lots of locals were out enjoying a beautiful day. Was there to play softball and the field was maintained very well.
Chiucat / Angel: ★★★★★
Look, look. Pickleball courts! Four pickleball courts made out of one tennis court, with rolling nets, and good railing to stop balls from/to neighboring tennis courts. Beautiful surfaces, great condition. There are lights on the tennis courts so likely evening play is available. Still a pilot project. Parking a bit tight on weekends, but spaces available on either side of the baseball field. There is also a viewing stand if you want to watch the games.
yomi matsuoka: ★★★★★
The best pickleball courts in the area. Four Competitive and four regular courts. Very good playing system so one can show up alone yet still have a superb time.
Mike N: ★★★★★

Sunil Saxena: ★★★★

Nice place to play tennis or pickleball. They have 8 pickleball courts and it is well lit until 10pm. People are very friendly
Pramod Mahadevan: ★★★★★
Great pickleball and tennis courts. 8 pickleball courts available for play and pretty easy to get a turn even if you show up by yourself
Frank Blue: ★★★★★
Love this place, very well organized and has 4 courts for beginners and four courts for advanced. Also they side seating is great and shaded
Elaine G: ★★★★★
The court itself is great — well-maintained and a good place to play. Just a heads-up: we had a strange experience where a couple briefly joined our game and left shortly after, taking one of our balls with them. It seemed intentional, as they didn’t bring any equipment and left quickly. So just a word of caution: avoid sharing your court with strangers to prevent issues like this.
Mayank Jain (Makuchaku): ★★★★★
Great courts (has 6 of them), very courteous players. Has a waiting area right next to court 1 on the stairs, where everyone waits to play on first come first play convention. Has fantastic lights to play in the night. Great adjacent park for kids to have fun.
Jennifer Hui: ★★★★★
Great to have six courts to play on. The courts can be popular and wait times can be long when temperatures are warmer. Not everyone adheres to the time limits posted and pretty much no one uses the board to set their start and end times. So you will have to ask people when they claimed to court and assert your right to the court at the appropriate time as necessary. Classes happen on courts 5 and 6 so sometimes court availability becomes more limited.
Dhriti Reddy: ★★★★★
Love the waiting routine so its fair to everyone.
Jayasimha Nuggehalli: ★★★★★
Very well maintained Tennis courts located in Memorial park. It is right next to baseball/softball field and play structure. Courts become busy during the weekend. There is ample parking near the court, close to Quinlan center.
Janan Dea: ★★★★
Memorial is hands down the place with the best nets and the best courts.
Chetan Suresh: ★★★★★
The courts are excellently lit during the evening. There are 6 courts and only few of them have a bit of a waterlogging problem during rains. Well maintained courts in general.
Kunal Sahu: ★★★★★
Well maintained tennis courts but very busy at peak hours.
Torsten: ★★★★★
Pretty easy to get a court most of the time. There are lights too which is great.

This is a great park to come alone or with family. There are pickleball and tennis courts, their system works really well for taking turns on the courts, too. Plenty of walking paths, nice playgrounds, there are bathrooms, and it's quite clean.
sophia lu: ★★★★
This park is a very nice park. The environment is really friendly and clean. Its is a great place to do a morning jog, or to just have fun and exercise! There are numerous tennis courts available to everyone and there is also a large field to play any grass games or to play fetch with your dog! One thing i don't really like is that they drained that ponds, but i understand that it was because to save water.
Michael Chyan: ★★★★
I come here every week for the tennis courts. They are well lit at night and the court condition is great. There is usually a 15 minute wait for courts but it's not too bad. There is also a public restroom nearby which is convenient.
YUCHEN JIA: ★★★★★
The park is big and nice. Lots of events going on across the whole year. Two playgrounds, one picnic area, six tennis courts with lights up to 10:30pm. Next to Cupertino sports center and the community Quinlan center where lots of cheap programs for kids.
Shobhit Singhal: ★★★★
Awesome courts. Very well maintained and I like that they don’t play too fast which keeps the rallies longer. Parking can be hard to find if you search for the tennis courts so make sure to search for the park instead. Also the courts fill up super early. At 6.45 we took the last court and by 7 there were people waiting in line. The most annoying thing about the courts is the way the fencing is installed. It doesn’t prevent the balls from rolling over to the other court but makes them harder to retrieve. The middle fencing needs to be higher IMO.
Jayasimha Nuggehalli: ★★★★★
Very nice and huge park part of Cupertino community. There are Tennis courts, several play structure for kids and also a baseball/softball field. Several Cupertino community events are held here. There used to be water pond as well, now there is no water in the pond due to water scarcity in California.
Sunil Saxena: ★★★★
Nice park to walk around. Good space to play soccer volleyball. Nice play area for kids. Tennis courts , pickleball baseball and good open field of grass. Restrooms: Are available near Tennis courts
Eric Tam: ★★★★★
This is a huge park that i don't have much to complain. The environment is open and friendly. I usually go to the tennis courts, which have 5 courts. In the weekend days and weeknights, 2 courts are used for coaching, which still leave 3 available courts. The court condition is very good!
Mingzhu Liu: ★★★★★
Good place for family. Large area, 2 playgrounds, and many tennis courts. However, the tennis courts need reservations.
Jyotsana Pandey: ★★★★★

Pickleball courts rock here. Wonderful system for everyone to come and enjoy the game. The park itself is huge and has a lot to offer for families and people looking to get out and enjoy a walk or a run or play sports. Restrooms: There's restrooms by the tennis courts, but toilet tends to be pretty dirty and not well maintained
Tiina: ★★★★★
This is a wonderful big park in Cupertino and great for a dog walk. There are picnic table area, amphitheater, tennis courts/ pickleball courts, green areas. I love taking a walk here. The pickleball courts looks very crowded, otherwise I would visit there. Dog-friendliness: Very dog friendly. Picnic area: There are some
Anna Slutsky: ★★★★★
Great park with lots of options for activities. I enjoy playing pickleball and the PB courts are excellent and well maintained.
Chuck Kuhn: ★★★★★
Hugh park, well kept. Several playgrounds 🎾 baseball, picnic, pickle ball, Senior center and parking. Playground: 3 playgrounds. Dog-friendliness: Doggie bags, lots of grass to roam. Picnic area: Many tables
Aaron McCollum: ★★★★★
I only come here for pickleball, great park, limited parking. Restrooms. Pickleball review: As of this review (it may change) there are eight courts that use temporary nets. 4 courts are designated as competitive courts and 4 are friendly. There is 1 paddle rack for 4 courts, so rotation happens more efficiently as you get on the 1st available. Restrooms: There's at least one pair by the pickleball courts.
Paul Baty: ★★★★★
Awesome place for walking, tennis and pickleball. There are pickup pickleball games happening every day as far as I can tell. I'm totally new to the sport but tried it here for the first time. There are 4 "friendly" and 4 "competitive" courts and theyhave a great system for keeping games moving and rotating in new players. Seems like you can come alone, with a partner or foursome like I did.
Subir Sengupta: ★★★★★
Great neighborhood park with playgrounds, BBQ picnic areas, Tennis and Pickleball courts.
Chiucat / Angel: ★★★★★
I've come to really love this park. Having lived in the area for 8 years and never stopped in, we began to play pickleball here. We have since taken walks all around the park with our dog and attended outdoor concerts. The mix of sports fields, playgrounds, community & senior centers, open greens, small hills, gazebo & shade, and the amphitheaters show a lot of good planning & thought. The park is in continual use by all and sundry. People plan picnics, attend free outdoor concerts and plays, enjoy tennis, baseball, volleyball and pickleball. Even the occasional closure of my usual parking lot can be tolerated because there are plenty of other nearby parking options. The Memorial Park is a perfect example of thoughtful governance that provides a community a place to gather, socialize and enjoy the outdoors.
Janan Dea: ★★★★★
Busy on the weekends for pickleball but it’s gorgeous!!! Well maintained
Eric Schaefle: ★★★★
Nice park. I do miss the water features. It has a lot available; Kids Play area, Tennis & PickleBall Courts, Softball Field, Veterans Memorial , Outdoor Amphitheater for concerts & plays, good restrooms. Playground: Great play area and equipment to,wear out the kids! Restrooms: Small, but have been clean. Dog-friendliness: Too Friendly. Come on folks Pick up after your dogs, don't leave the plastic bags on the trails or around the trees. If your dog is not trained/socialized, keep them on a lead.

The clocks are broken. Nobody clocks in and out and they are unwilling to leave the court when their times are done. Half of the courts are reserved for tennis classes and with 3 available courts, we have alot if people who think that they are the owner of the court and get offended when we ask them to obey the rules.
12lilsister: ★★
No water/ponds here. I walked farther during my visit to Cupertino specifically to spend time at a park with water, the dark marks on the Google map (and suggested by the AI aerial view) are NOT water. Too bad, otherwise nice park with an active pickleball scene!
