The Addison-Penzak JCC in Los Gatos offers a welcoming and well-rounded environment for both individual fitness and family recreation. The fitness center is clean, modern, and thoughtfully equipped—with everything from free weights and resistance machines to a spacious cardio area. The group fitness classes are a standout, offering a variety of options like yoga, HIIT, and spin, all led by knowledgeable instructors who strike a great balance between motivation and approachability. Whether you’re working out solo or joining a class, the atmosphere feels supportive and community-driven. For families, the JCC really shines. The outdoor pool is a favorite, especially in the warmer months, and the facility often hosts seasonal events that bring people together in a relaxed, inclusive setting. There’s also a gymnasium, tennis courts, and even pickleball—making it easy to stay active in ways that go beyond the typical gym routine. It’s the kind of place where you can drop in for a workout, then meet up with family for a swim or a snack at the café. The blend of fitness, leisure, and community makes it a standout resource in the Los Gatos area.

I love the JCC! They regularly hold wonderful events, like the recent wellness fair, and the fitness center and workout classes are spectacular. Bill, the fitness director is so fun, helpful and hilarious. Sign up now! You won't regret it. Plus, they have AquaFit year round in the heated outdoor pool! And pickleball courts!!!

The story behind how I got a membership here twice is funny to me. In 2013 or 2014, I didn't mean to get a membership here, but rather at the Swim and Racket Club, which is also on Oka Road. I made a wrong turn here, took a tour, and decided that this is what I needed (mostly the pool to train for a triathlon I didn't even end up doing). The facilities were nice, the staff was as well. Last year (2024), after encountering a strange leg injury, I decided I needed to swim, and remember how much I enjoyed the JCC last time, I signed up again through an old friend of mine. I swam quite a lot here this last year, did some rowing, played basketball and pickleball, and wished I had used more of the facilities. Through it all, big thanks to Diego for help with my membership, Debbie for being there at the front with a warm welcome, and to all the lifeguards who ever had to watch over me (I once swam here continuously for almost 4 hours...). Some strange bit of fate brought me here twice about a decade apart, so despite moving out of state recently, I might be back! In the meantime, thank you for the memories.

Lower end weights machines than I had hoped, and there is much less equipment than I expected. On the up side, it's all new or will maintained. Just packing in variety and quality for that trade of. That makes it a toss up. Has town service, and clean locker rooms, as well as steam room and sauna. Sadly, there is no hot tub in the locker room. (So there is no gym in the area that has a "safe" hot tub for women (duo gender hot tubs are ALWAYS occupied by gross old men who stare, and make women feel very uncomfortable.) ). Has outdoor pool (82° year round), and outdoor soccer field (which can also be used for running laps - 6x around the goal posts =1 mile). Price wise, and for the equipment, 24 Hour Fitness wins. Cleanliness, JCC wins. Also if you want tennis, soccer, and social programs, or need the gym too wash your shower town, JCC wins. If you don't need those services, well, you'll pay for them anyway. Locating, if you're near downtown Los Gatos, or in the Santa Cruz Mountains, JCC is closer. For 24 Hour Fitness,, I'd recommend the club on Almaden Rd in San Jose over the Hillsdale Ave in Los Gatos location. Notice that the Los Gatos club downtown, next to the high school does NOT factor in. It's pricing is comparable to JcC, but is facilities are awful. Their equipment is essentially the same line as JCC, but very old. So is very maintained, not high end. Locker rooms have had three same broken lockers and tagged out carpet for AT LEAST a decade. Their staff is true, and think too highly of themselves. Their attitude is that they are "Los Gatos", so you should pay for the snobbish locating. Yet is one of the worst clubs I've ever been to. Sure is location is perfect of you live down town, or in the Santa Cruz Mountains. But that's it. Oh, it does have a hint tub in the women's locker room. It's depressing, but it has one. That's really the only reason to join. You'll pay ridiculous fees for the "privilege" of their name. Sure, they FINALLY are renovating, or say they will. But they upped their price, for you to use it based on promises. They*should* renovate, THEN raise the fees. Instead they're ripping people off, and have created a bad name for themselves aground town. Then probably eventually recover, super because of location. But honestly with JCC fairly clue, there is no reasonable excuse or reason to support the Los Gatos downtown club owners. If you can afford that price range, definitely choose JCC over downtown LG Club. JCC much friendlier, and offers more. If both are out of your price range, or you need more equipment variety/quality, choose 24 Hour Fitness. Though depending on which location you choose, it may have more traffic, and you might need to bring your own towel. Also, 24 Hour Fitness membership can give you access to ALL locations world wide. And dozens just here in the bay area. Some are as bad as the Los Gatos Fitness Club. But some are even nice than JCC. Unfortunately, jCC does not offer a limited membership, giving access to just the workout rooms and locker rooms. (with extras such as tennis, pool, activities), at a lower price. But I guess that keeps the small gym less crowded, and easier to maintain. Also, maybe filters or less desirable members. It's would be too difficult, and less friendly to have to monitor people once they've gained access anyway. Overall, I recommend JCC ! 😃

Great tennis program. The pros are very experienced and been in the field for 20+ years, they're passionate on what they do, and you can see that they love what they do. And from the looks of it, Things happen for a reason and the tennis program looks like it has a bright future ahead of them. Ask for Francisco Ruiz - DIRECTOR Anthony Carpio - HEAD PRO

Thank you for being open on Christmas day and having a day pass option that I could use. Well equipped gym and they have a lot of other facilities as well like a pool, tennis courts, bball court etc.
Shira K.: ★★★★★
Love this place. The setting is low key, so I never feel judged when I workout. There is a wide range of equipment, zumba classes, and fantastic massage therapists. They also have four tennis courts that are often available and very well kept. And the staff is very friendly and professional.

My daughter is attending their tennis camp this summer. By FAR this is the best summer she has had at a camp! We tried Stanford camp last year...she did not care for it, and didn't make many friends. Here...by the end of the first week, even the camp director knew here name. We received a camp calendar of all of their activities (not just tennis, but playground time, and swimming!), and they also have Kidchow.com bring in lunch (woo hoo I don't have to make lunches this summer!).We are not Jewish, but feel extremely welcomed and I know that my daughter is cared for while she is there.I like that you have to show ID every time you want to go in to the center. It makes me feel like she is safe.

I just can't speak highly enough of this JCC, and I'm not even Jewish. After taking advantage of a guest pass, I learned that they are a non-profit and offer "scholarships." I submitted my paperwork supporting a recent layoff and other financial hardships and they accepted me at a discounted individual rate. Today I took advantage of a 20% massage discount that they sent to me for my birthday and Donny was great. Their staff is very friendly. The facility is really nice and clean. They offer free classes throughout the day and evening all week long. I just started taking tennis and their Saturday cardio tennis class is a great workout and was not intimidating, thanks to other nice members and instructors. This is the best thing to happen to me as a result of losing my job!

I'm gone on a few guest passes, still thinking about whether it's worth to join. I live in Cupertino which is a bit far but it seems better than any of the options that are closer to me. It's nice that I can pay $15 each time (despite the security checking, which is a minor hassle but I understand why they do it), not exactly cheap but for the frequency I would realistically use it's cheaper to pay each time than a monthly membership. I've mainly used the swimming pool. I would compare it with nearby Los Gatos Swim and Tennis Club. Pool is nice of lap swimming. Not as nice as LGSTC if you want to bring your family, not the same "hang out by the pool club" feeling. The shower/locker room setup is a bit weird. The pool has it's own locker room separate from the other locker, which makes sense, but the only showers are outside by the pool, so you can't take a "real" shower. There's no swimsuit spin drier I could find either, which many of the other swim pools have and is a modest expense for what they charge. As someone else no hot-tub either. This would put it at a disadvantage with LGSTC which price-wise compare about the same.Monthly dues are $102 for single and $211 for family (different prices depending if you're senior, single parent, etc) if anyone is shopping around. The initial fee varies depending on the promotion. The plus compared with LGSTC is that it's all inclusive (including tennis), so whether it's cheaper or not depends on whether you play tennis or not.
Roberta L.: ★★★★★
This club, managed by Club One has great facilities for a moderately priced gym; plus swimming pool with masters classes and lessons, and tennis courts. The locker facilities are spacious and clean. I like the group fitness classes the most. Compared to other classes, there are a large number of classes (in two rooms) of different variety- yoga, pilates, body sclupting, zumba, etc for all levels. All the instructors have been top notch.
Tyler H.: ★★★★★
I've been a member of the JCC for approximately one year, and am very happy with it overall. I previously had a membership at The Bay Club Courtside down the road, where I paid twice as much for similar amenities. The JCC is clean with friendly staff, towel service, a nice pool, tennis courts, and a solid gym. There are a ton of group classes and many other services I have yet to utilize. If you're looking for good value and want something that's a step above places like City Sports Club, etc without breaking the bank, the JCC is an excellent choice.
Susie A.: ★★★★
This club is classy, but I have not met a snob yet! The members at this club are so friendly! The facilities are brand new. Each treadmill has its own television, so you can watch what you want to watch. However, most of the time, I spend my time out on the tennis courts or upstairs in the group exercise room. I like the fact that the group exercise rooms are located upstairs and have no windows. It makes it a very non-threatening environment. No one can watch me as I attempt to dance! ;)Oh and the group exercise instructors are exceptional!
Brian B.: ★★★★
The JCC has some awesome facilities. All of the tennis courts, pool, gyms, and locker rooms are very modern and up to date. Everything is in pristine shape with lots of amenities.Dom, who works the front desk, is always really friendly and welcoming whenever I go there. The gym is full of TVs (which is nice because I can barely stand to work out for fear of shear boredom...), and the personal trainers who work there are excellent. Jorge Contreras is by far my favourite, and seemingly the most knowledgeable. If I could rate Jorge by himself, I would give him 5 stars (I wonder if I can...?).
Mary-Whillow H.: ★★★★★
I've been here for 3 years now, and there is a reason I've stayed with this gym for so long. The APJCC is not only a place to work out and relax with massages or the sauna, but an amazing place to find community. With free yoga, Zumba, meditation, stretching, cardio, and swimming classes, you have opportunity to meet tons of people! They've got amazing facilities and host all different kinds of events. Between tennis courts, the pool, bikes and treadmills and stairmasters, weights, and areas to get my dance on, I don't know if I could ask for anything more! The staff are also more than accommodating, and I consider myself lucky to have gotten to know them. Complete with a fun and healthy cafe tucked into the lobby, this is the ultimate gym.
Kathy J.: ★★★★★
My son is attending summer camp at the APJCC. The camps are offered in four sessions (each session is two weeks) plus a pre- and post-camp (one-week session each). He is now finishing his seventh week and he loves it.The kids are grouped by age or the grade they're entering in the fall. They receive swim lessons twice a week and also have free swim twice a week. Each session has a themes (for example pirate week or western week) and the kids participate in cooking, music, science/nature and art activities related to the weekly theme. The camp counselors are friendly and competent, the facility is safe, and the program is well organized. The APJCC also has specialty camps including dance, tennis, basketball, soccer and culinary. We'll definitely be back next summer!

I discovered the dry/wet saunas AFTER I wrote this - yay! (Thank you JCC for letting me know my review was out date).I really love how when I haven't been around for a month or so they will email me to say, "Hey where are you? Here's a personal training session to motivate you!"How nice is that? Switched here after belonging to the Los Gatos gym over on Main Street in LG. I'm a fan - I won't be going anywhere else soon. This place has so much more to offer:Tennis BasketballSoccerGreat outdoor pool for childrenFull gym,ClassesOn-site PT and Massage therapyLots of great free classes Pilates (mat and reformer)TOWEL SERVICEGreat trainers like Branch Small restaurant onsiteIt's a bit more pricey, but the service is fabulous, it's clean, and it is very kid and family friendly. If you have deep pockets you might be going to Creekside to be with the hoity toity crowd....but this place is "real".My only disappointments are that they don't have a whirlpool, steam room, or dry sauna. At least I've never seen them. :)

The JCC gym used to be professionally managed by Club One which was great. Since JCC took over management, they are cutting costs and the equipment isn't well maintained. Most of the treadmills are broken/parts on order for fix for over a month. Or when it does get fixed, it breaks again. The classes are great, but the equipment is old and in need of care. Dumbbells are cracking. Mats are ripped. Since, the jcc took over management they replaced the large towels w/ small hand towels - probably to save money but the sign says to save water. I still like the JCC for the group classes, but I don't think its as well run as it used to be. This place is a hidden gem! I called around to a bunch of gyms and all of the gyms had really high monthly fees and/or exorbitant initiation dues. A lot of the other gyms had MINIMAL evening group classes. Not the JCC! JCC has a really reasonable initiation fee. I think in Jan it was even free. The monthly is also a great deal because it includes use of the tennis center - most places wanted to charge additional for tennis! All the machines are really up to date w/ personal tv's and clean. The monthly classes are great. Lots of variety after 430PM! Its managed by club one and you DON"T need to be jewish. In fact, there's all types of ppl that are members.

Pilates is the only good thing. For the rest, the employees are not really kind and some of them don't even acknowledge patrons, they just scan your member card and keep chatting among themselves. Tennis is the worst ever. The director needs to learn some tennis etiquette. My partner and I just cancelled our membership.

The JCC in Los Gatos is where you go to if you want to be demeaned and disrespected if you are a tennis player. While they have tennis facilities, it is deemed to be not worthy of the JCC's responsibilities of cleanliness, maintenance, or such. Example issues: - The courts are so dirty that even the public courts seem shiny and clean - Health hazards abound in the form of bird and rodent feces splattered all over the courts and benches - Leaves all over the courts in Fall which remain there as a hazard to playing, as the courts are never cleaned - When lights get fused it takes months (in plural) to fix, after multiple folks requesting multiple times each - Staff makes up stories to insinuate and bring down tennis players; staff is openly disrespectful to players, eg. Erin who takes it upon herself to humiliate tennis players - Broken nets take months of complaining to fix/replace. The last time the nets were replaced, they were left hanging lower than the requisite height and it took the staff many months (in plural) to fix the heights of the nets The two biggest issues to highlight are: (a) it feels really icky and unhealthy to play at the courts because of the amount of bird and rodent poop on the courts and on the benches, (b) on every complaint through the last few years to the leadership there is an answer (a lie to ward us off) that the issue will be taken care of (for example, wash the court), but it never ever gets done.
Patrick H.: ★★
The JCC Tennis Programs are not compliant with USTA safety code.I have played USTA league tennis since 1997. In 2010 I joined the JCC to participate in USTA league and over the five years the safety of the courts has diminished.Specifically, there is bird and rodent feces on the courts. The lights are poorly maintained and very dim for night play. The staff are non responsive to safety issues. I have evaluated my options and believe that a campaign towards creating a leadership change is far more productive than me leaving for another club. The JCC promotes junior tennis programs. Nearly eight hours per week I see up and coming junior tennis players learning tennis skills. I am concerned for their health and safety being subjected to play in unclean courts.Parents of junior tennis players should talk to JCC management about the need for regular maintenance.I will update my posting when regular maintenance is performed. A simple workflow and process change by JCC can achieve the safety standards required.Respectfully, Patrick

While a lot of good can be said about the JCC, the same is not true about its landlord, the Jewish Federation of Silicon Valley. Its maintenance of the facilities is horrendous. For example, it has not bothered for years to eliminate exposed live electrical wires that are reachable even to a one-year-old. It fails to replace or repair tennis equipment. The tennis courts are embarrassingly filthy. Only a change in upper management may correct the problem.

Dear Yelp users, It has been 5 years since I first joined the Los Gatos JCC and boy has it changed. Although the amenities offered have not changed, the services have (I'm speaking to you tennis department). As a tennis player, it is very important how the courts and players are treated. Here is a quick inventory why their customer service completely sucks:- courts are not cleaned, its almost like playing on clay courts w/out the clay- you will find a lot of rat and bird droppings around the court... yeah your ball can easy bounce in rat poop that can then get on your hands- poor maintenance of courts and nets- unresponsive to members' requests - singled out by management for blocking the fire lane when other parties doing the same have not been approached- very rude interaction with some staff in regards to tennis accommodations If you want to feel like you are being discriminated you will be accommodated at the Los Gatos JCC. Save yourself some money and find a club that maintains their facilities equally and treat ALL their members with respect. Me, "hey guys, I just joined a gym!"Friends, "oh cool, which one?"Me, "The Jewish Community Center."Friends, "oh, umm, cool, uhhhh, you're not Jewish."But it doesn't matter, people of all faiths and even the faithless join the JCC. In fact, I don't think I've met one Jewish person while I've been working out there, hmmm. This place is great, it has everything you can ask for in a gym: swimming, tennis, basketball, volleyball, weights, bunch of machines, and all the classes you can take. I've never had to wait to use a machine. Everyone I've met there has been very nice. The price is a little steep ($90/month), but if you are using everything they offer, it is totally worth it.

Jenny G. in December 2015 responded to my review stating that they are fixing the issue. I am submitting pictures from last week, which shows that the Bird and Rodent poop on the tennis courts have not been cleaned for months. I enjoyed my membership here for several years, despite lots of issues whenever having to deal with management about anything. Some of the trainers are good, some are great, some are mediocre. The facilities are kind of dingy, piles of hair in the drains in the women's shower, the sauna and steam room are frequently out of commission or barely functioning, and the lap pool is crowded on the weekends and often unavailable if you are interested in actually swimming laps. I've heard lots of complaints about the tennis facilities, but I never used them myself. They used to have great instructors for the fitness classes, but they cut out the ones I used to attend on the weekends and they don't offer much in the evenings after 6. Don't expect to receive a timely or reasonable response if you have any sort of inquiry of management. And they are all about getting the maximum possible money out of you, whether you actually get any value in exchange.
