Ethan Chiang: ★★★★★
The Lisa and Douglas Goldman Tennis Center in Golden Gate Park is a great experience for anyone who loves the sport. The recent renovations are truly outstanding, featuring beautifully maintained courts that play really well every time. This facility offers a welcoming atmosphere for players of all skill levels from beginners taking their first lesson to higher level club players. The staff is exceptionally friendly and the pro shop is fully stocked with quality gear. Furthermore, the location within the park makes it a very beautiful area to play, making it more than just a place to play, but a wonderful experience. Great spot for tennis.
Tony Baca: ★★★★★
My favorite place to play in San Francisco. I have taken 8-9 classes there over 2 years. Great instructors. Beautiful setting. Perfect courts. My only gripe would be that I would they would invest in dryers for the courts. Some might have dew from the night before and sit in shade so it takes hours for the dew to dry and they cancel reservations instead of getting a dryer and putting it out there.
Brian T McGue: ★★★★★
The courts are fantastic and there are lights so playing well into the evening is a viable option. The ability to reserve a court is also great, so there is no need to wait.
Ian Kennedy: ★★★★★
So nice since they finished the renovations. You can book a court online from 30-90 minutes and it's very reasonably priced.
Michael H: ★★★★★
Goldman and especially its group lessons are one of my favorite things about San Francisco. Coaches Angus, Charlie, Greg, Justin, and Verne are amazing instructors and people. I've taken lessons for 9 months and my game has improved significantly. Group lessons are extremely popular so be prepared to register the moment availability is released. Beautiful location in Golden Gate Park and courts are extremely well maintained. Thank you Goldman Tennis Center and staff!
Lance Mock: ★★★★
These courts have been open for a while but thought I'd add my 2 cents. The courts are generally well spaced with net "walls" between some courts. I've mainly played on the courts off the "center" court which do not have the walls, so a bit annoying but more available. You should make reservations. The main problem is the same old one the previous courts had, wind. Generally the wind comes with the court, ie from behind or in front of you as you face the net. It's a challenge but provided you adjust, not something that can be overcome. Anyway enjoy the beautiful park and the beautiful courts. Both highly recommend.
WBforLife W: ★★★★★
Beautiful facilities. I love playing tennis here. Make sure you get reservation in 8 days in advance. They fill up quickly. I've run them out. There is extremely friendly and helpful. I was just visiting for the weekend. I was able to make an account and book a court. Plus I got to enjoy Golden gate Park afterwards which was a real treat. Well there's always nice in San Fran and I'm glad I got to take advantage of it!
APRIL Z: ★★★★★
Great tennis court in the heart of Golden Gate Park.
Susan Caust: ★★★★★
A tennis center with five dedicated pickleball courts (my jam). The tennis center itself is fantastic in that it's newly renovated, sleek, clean, and has incredibly lovely staff. (Shout out to Celeste!) I feel privileged to belong to such a wonderful public facility. (Anyone can join, btw.) Court time is inexpensive, especially if you're a SF resident, and even cheaper if you work a flexible schedule and/or are older and can play weekdays during the day. While the tennis courts are perpetually half empty, if you can snag a pickleball court (almost always full), it's great. Hopefully at some point Parks & Rec will see the financial and social benefits of converting some of those underused tennis courts to additional pb courts. (But that's a separate discussion.) Parking? Free and fairly easy to get except when there's a big event in GGP; like Outside Lands. Don't know how to play pickleball or tennis? Join up and take a class. All levels, and a great way to make new friends. If I have anything negative to add, it's certainly not the fault of GTC: courts are often canceled in the early morning due to wetness on the courts, but no surprise -- it's San Francisco!
John Brendan Horgan: ★★★★★
Maybe my favorite spot in San Francisco. Beautiful facility and welcoming staff. Shout out to coaches Brandon and Jenna from my advanced course for being so fun, inclusive, and technically knowledgeable. Shout out to coach Charles from my intermediate course for teaching me how to serve and bringing a passion for the game to every lesson. Love showing up to Goldman for some tennis - thanks all!

Feels like the civilized British sports clubs that were part of my childhood in Bombay ; the dramatic gateway with an arch entrance into the park is superb; Love the spacious and stylish sitting area where I read and lounge before tennis. All courts are of great quality. My favorite course is NTRP 3.0. Fellow tennis partners do become good friends and that was important when I was new to SF. Impressed with convivial Celeste at front desk, coach Brandon who helps me to get rid of my habit of slicing every backhand shot; head coach Joe and other offer help when they see me with ball machine!
shruti gujar: ★★★★
We played pickle ball here! Amazing experience..Pickleball is known for its accessibility, making it suitable for players of various ages and skill levels. It has gained popularity for its fast-paced and social nature. You can easily book the court in advance and enjoy the sport
Allen G: ★★★★★
First time here for pickle ball. Great new lite courts more like a private tennis club type feel than public golden gate park as expected. Thank you to the Goldmans and park and rec.
Wilbur Yu: ★★★★★
Absolutely beautiful courts. They offer: 5 pickleball courts 16 tennis courts SUPER HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU RESERVE ONLINE It's booked often (especially pickleball) and it'll be really difficult to just walk in. That being said, please don't book because peasants like me want to play. If you're also booking, it means I'll have less chances of booking courts. (But these are amazing courts)
Dan Braunstein: ★★★★★
It used to be really run down and now it's one of the nicest public tennis centers I've played at. My son is taking lessons there. It's really brought an interest in tennis back to SF. There's lots of tournaments there now. The only bummer is you have to book a week in advance sometimes. It's that popular.
Benjamin Small: ★★★★
Had to argue with people on the court that we had reserved the court and the front desk told us which # court we had. Probably lost 5 minutes out of our 30 minutes reservation resolving this dispute. No fault of the tennis center, just a misunderstanding that cost time.
Jason Levy: ★★★★
As far as a place for public tennis courts, this might have the most in all of SF. That means it's good place for a tournament, exhibition, league match, etc. The courts are right beside colorful characters within Golden Gate Park. The clubhouse and bathrooms are decent (not great, but not bad). The bench style seating between the levels of courts is kinda cool.
Kapil Easwar: ★★★★★
These are pretty well maintained courts. And there are a ton of them, so it's usually easy to find one (except maybe in the peak of the summer). And it's only $5 per 90 minute slot!
Vera D.: ★★★★★
These courts are open year round, even in 40-degree weather. Nestled along Lincoln Blvd at 5th, the courts offer affordable court rentals and guarantee that you'll get to play (vs. having to wait and kick people off like you have to at other public courts). The conditions of the courts are pretty good considering they're publicly funded and most players are USTA members, so your neighbors are often courteous and obey the unspoken etiquette of tennis. The attendant has been friendly everytime I've played at GGP. The bathrooms are adequate and there is a clubhouse for players to relax, catch up or play table tennis. Dogs can be tied to a tree or fence outside the courts.
Marta Shymanovich: ★★★★★
Well maintained, relatively easy to get a court.
Kedar Shah: ★★★★★

Neutral Reviews:
Andrew Dang: ★★★
Nice facility and courts but the classes can be a huge waste of time and are overpriced. The biggest issue I had is certain classes say that players "must be able to maintain a rally and serve consistently" but I've completed 3 classes now where half the players couldn't do that so the instructors turned it into a beginner class. They really need to introduce a test or approval process to move up from the beginner level and stick to the actual description of the class.
Khalid Alali: ★★★
Fantastic tennis center that's sadly held back by limited capacity and a painful booking system. Trying to book a court here is as easy as purchasing outside lands tickets. You might get lucky once or twice but the rest of the time it's just stressful and full of errors.
Lance Mock: ★★★
Courts are in pretty poor condition. They are also quite close so be ready to have unexpected guests.
Negative Reviews:
Cam Brand: ★
This facility is beyond frustrating. My last hope is that the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department looks into replacing Lifetime Activities and General Manager Betsy Kemp as the operators of this facility. The reservation system is consistently unreliable. Over the past two years, I have dealt with at least six separate incidents where I arrived for a confirmed reservation only to find the courts unavailable due to school team competition or damp conditions that were not communicated in time. This is a chronic issue known throughout the local tennis community. While I understand weather affects playability, cancelling a reservation 15-20 minutes beforehand—when most players are already commuting—is unacceptable business practice. The front desk's standard response is to apologize and offer a rebooking, but they refuse to address the root cause. I have lived in the neighborhood for over a decade and played here long before the renovation. I miss the days when this facility was operated reliably. The current management clearly does not care enough to implement meaningful changes, and I am tired of having my time wasted.

What a joke. They cancel classes claiming “weather reasons” when the sun is shining just fine — it’s nothing more than a scam to keep your money and trap you with useless credits. Instead of issuing a refund like any decent business, they hide behind their shady little policy. The so-called lessons? Weak and watered down. The teachers are mediocre at best, clearly set up so you never actually improve and keep paying for more. It’s not a program to teach you, it’s a hamster wheel designed to milk your wallet. And don’t get me started on the staff. Jerry at the front desk is as rude and dismissive as every other review says — it’s almost like being condescending is part of his job description. Bottom line: fake “weather” excuses, scammy credit policy, mediocre instruction, and rude staff. Save yourself the frustration and take your money literally anywhere else

I play here at least 1-2 times per week and am also enrolled in a 9 month program that costs $2200…for the third year in a row. And the high school kid working the front desk just yelled at me for asking if he could move my court reservation from one court to another lol This is not a tennis club. Customer service does not exist here.

If you choose to do group class here - 2 things I wish I knew beforehand: - they cancel class if it rains, and only issue credit in your account for you to purchase another class. There is no refund. - they have no flexibility, if you have any personal reasons to go another day for the same level, they won’t allow even if there is a lot of vacancies. - the supervisor and front desk people’s attitude was a bit condescending when we were discussing these issues on site, and they look tired and disinterested in helping their customers. - 2 stars are for some fun coaches they do have, and relatively quick email responses, but overall it was a negative experience because of their subpar customer service and how they treat their students Hope it’s helpful for people who are researching tennis classes in SF and be mindful of you might not get what you paid for!

Horrible. Don’t recommend for beginners. The goal of ownership is cram as many kids onto 1 court with 1 pro because the private ownership makes way more money with 14 kids to 1 pro. The teaching pros are largely not USPTA certified teaching tennis pros. The only private lessons available are typically on Sunday or late at night.

hate to leave a bad review but their classes registration is completely broken. Signed online at exactly 1pm sharp. The site allowed me to add the desired classes to the cart, but payment keeps erroring out because "it's at capacity". Someone should really fix their registration system. It seems like a complete lottery whether the classes you think are available according to their schedule page are actually available. Been on the phone for 30 minutes, got dropped 3 times after getting connected. Gave up.

Don’t try to schedule any events here. I tried scheduling a company event 15 days ahead of time. I got confirmation there was availability and was told there’s a docusign and they’d charge my account. A few days passed and didn’t receive the info, so I called and emailed 5 times with no response. The last time they did respond they said it was all good. I get a call 3 days before and they wrote down the wrong dates. Now I’m scrambling to organize our event.

Staff members are rude, especially low level staff like the guy cleaning up the courts. Good coaches are gone and young coaches are stepping in to give basic lessons.

the lessons are nice and well priced! but it's too hard to get a lesson - registration instantly fills up within seconds. I'll probably have to go somewhere else if I want to be able to take any classes

Scam. Website does not allow you to actually reserve courts or register for classes. Three different error messages online, then told to call. When I call there is no call waiting, I have to repeatedly hit the same set of buttons to see if I can speak with someone. Got through to dialing and then they kicked me off the line. I've given up and will just play tennis elsewhere.

Tennis classes are bad. Too expensive and price is not worth it.

Tennis lessons offered here are average at best. Don’t bother if you’re looking to improve.

I have taken 8-9 classes there over 2 years

Some might have dew from the night before and sit in shade so it takes hours for the dew to dry and they cancel reservations instead of getting a dryer and putting it out there

Nice facility and courts but the classes can be a huge waste of time and are overpriced
