My favorite park in Santa Rosa! Lots of great short hikes (longer if you walk into the attached parks), fishing and boating on the lake, fantastic birding, tennis and pickleball- everything I need in a local outdoor rec area!

I've been taking my 10 year old son to Howarth Park since he was 1 and a half or so and we've always enjoyed the playground(s), and when he was little the train and merry-go-round. But tonight for the first time we played pickleball. Nice lit courts for night play and the people were courteous and friendly. I'm sure we'll be playing a LOT more in the future.
Cassidy Dalton: ★★★★★
Still somehow managing to find different paths to take at this park. Lots of different areas to be. Basketball, tennis, pickleball courts, baseball field, small rock climbing wall. Pond with geese, different areas with picnic tables, traditional park with play structure, nice grass to lay on.

Great amenities for all ages. Tennis courts, small “lake”, nice walking paths. There is a carousel and a train, pretty reasonably priced , and a great play area for kids with different play areas for different skill levels. One of the best regional parks in the area.

Great park with lots to do. Fishing year round with the fish and game stocking often. Public restrooms and portable toilets. Nice trails. Rock climbing for kids, play structures and tennis courts. Alot of ducks and geese... be careful they are aggressive, there's signs that say DO NOT FEED GEESE.

I can't believe this place even exists in the middle of Santa Rosa. I dropped my daughter off an thought ill go for a little drive while I wait when I came across it. The place is quite amazing ill definitely say. Their is so many things you can do on your visit from 🎣 fishing, walking around the beautiful lake, the kids zone , an tennis courts an more . I would definitely recommend this place to anyone young an old.
Alison Phillips: ★★★★★
Wonderful park with something for everyone. One large play area for kids of all ages, one smaller play area with a climbing wall. Beautiful lake where you can bring your own boat year 'round & kayaks, small sail boats, paddle boats and paddle boards can be rented during the summer. During certain times of the year the train runs and there is a petting zoo and horseback riding. Loads of tennis courts with lights for night play are here too. Literally, something for everyone.
Elle Skinner: ★★★★★
The park for everyone! They have a playground and play areas for children of all ages. There are also tennis courts, grill areas, picnic tables, stand-alone benches, and in sure something I’m forgetting. The lake is surrounded by birds and beautiful nature scenes. You can rent different boating devices as well! The trails are awesome, shaded, and there is an ample amount of signs to keep you from getting lost. Check it out, it’s definitely worth the trip!
L.Z. Tang: ★★★★
This is one of the most accessible and enjoyable parks in Santa Rosa. There are multiple parking lots adjacent to the playgrounds and tennis court. For families with young children there is the main playground with slides and a climbing rope structure. Older children and teens typically enjoy the rock climbing wall next to the lake. For anyone wanting to walk or hike, there are various trails from the lake that range from relaxing to moderate effort, and there are various benches and scenic stops to make along your way.

Beautiful park right in the middle of the city. Great playground for kids, horse rides, snack bar, train, merry-go-round. Fishing and boating available at Lake Ralphine. Trails are well maintained. Very relaxing park with abundant huge trees. In the summer, the city will show movies in the large field area. There are also many picnic grounds, softball field, tennis courts, and pickleball courts.
Mandy L.: ★★★★★
Adding a note to my already 5 star review because since my last testament to the awesomeness of this park they've replaced one section of tennis courts to be 4 permanent pickleball courts. The real beauty of their courts aside from our awesome community is Howarth offers lights! So night play and early morning are always an option here! This park really has something for everyone, it's free, it's clean, it's a local treasure! I love Howarth Park. It offers a little something for everyone; walking/running/bike trails, kid zones with jungle gyms, climbing walls, a steam train and even a merry go round. For me, the joy is in the trails around Lake Ralphine and Spring Lake. When you head for a walk or run it feels like a little bit of paradise yet it is only 10 minutes from downtown. Beautiful wooded areas with shaded paths to wander with friends trail around each lake and if you cover the entire loop you are looking at about a 4 mile stretch. If you include all the nooks and crannies it can be higher in mileage. My usual running stretch is about 5 miles and dips slightly into Annadel for a moment. (Another benefit, this park trails its way into Annadel which is a whole other can of awesome trails and vistas to enjoy). There are tennis courts, baseball diamond for games, and even a snack bar. Picnic tables are scattered all around the parking lot and within the park along the trails. You can paddle boat and canoe in the summer off the lakes. Many people come and fish, but I assume it is a recreational activity and not for sport. You'll find a swimming hole for the kiddos, it is man made, so I'm not dipping my tootsies in any time soon, but it is there for those who aren't such a germaphobe. If you want to get a great workout there are stations scattered along the main path where you can "test your fitness level" with different activities. It is always busy, so if you are alone it helps for the safety factor but it is still smart to stay on the paved paths when alone as the trails can be winding and hard to hear through the woods. If you have never been and are looking for a nice place to enjoy some sunshine this is your spot! It's beautiful and there are points in the day when it feels like your own little slice of heaven with the sun glistening off the water as it sparkles like diamonds.

I went for an enjoyable 5-ish-mile hike from Howarth Park through Spring Lake Park and back again today. There was no parking when we arrived, which was fine as we had taken public transit to get there. Plan ahead on weekends when the weather is nice because it seems like it gets super busy. There were tons of families and people of all ages having fun. One section of the tennis courts is for pickleball, which looked super fun. There's a climbing wall and playground for children. There are plenty of picnic benches and tables, too; the area by the lake seems like a lovely place for a picnic. The paved trails were packed. I haven't been on such a busy trail in years. We brought our dog, who thoroughly enjoyed the hike. We ran into many other people with dogs, and every single dog was on leash. That alone gives this park five stars in my book.

Great big park with something for everyone. There is a playground area and tennis courts as well as picnic areas. There are numerous well marked walking & hiking trails throughout the park. It’s seems like a fairly popular park with lots of outdoor space for a variety of activities.

Love this spot to relax next to the lake. Watching the geese and squirrels do their thing. Still nice despite all the geese poop and feathers. Nice trail for bikes, walking or running. Remember going on the train as a kid!! Was a magical place at that age. Also found the trail connecting to Spring lake and hill side paths. Where you can fish Lake side or with a Kayak or Float Tube. Seems to be very kid & family friendly! Has playgrounds for the little one's. Grass to relax as well. Also tennis courts and a Baseball field's. Played there on a team as the "Lucky Seven's when I was young in Petaluma. Really a good place to be & nice spot to have so close! 💓🙏.

Great family destination. For the kids, a giant playground, carousel, train rides, horse rides, etc. And for the grown ups, hiking/biking trails, tennis courts, and lots of scenery. Head over to Lake Ralphine for some fishing or rent a paddle boat from the boat house. Easy access to Spring Lake and Annadel State Park.
Sasan V Barrow: ★★★★
It's extremely large park. You can go hiking, Have a barbecue in the picnic area by the Kitty play area. Or you can feed the ducks. In the Spring and summer time, the boating area is really fun. And on the other side of spring lake you pay for parking but you don't have to pay for parking at howard's park. You can ride your bikes there. They have a tennis courts and it's just a wonderful time For the whole family, including your pets. Because it is pet friendly. They do have restrooms and porter potties

If you’ve seen my review on Spring Lake, this has all of the same positive attributes. For those that haven’t, it’s a great little park that unlike spring lake, doesn’t require paying to park or a pass. It offers all the things you’d want in a local park; Nice play area for the kiddos (my 3 year old nephew loved it), picnic areas all around, a beautiful lake, (This is NOT “Spring Lake”). That said, it offers fantastic trails that connect to the larger park system trails, (paved and unpaved), and a usually nicely maintained trail around the lake if you’re looking for a quicker hike. The park also offers tennis courts and baseball/softball courts as well. My “go-to” park when spring lake has already closed for the night and I still need to walk the pup.
Hardley Fayre: ★★★★
This park is a family treasure with something for everyone. Tennis courts, playgrounds, trails for walking or biking on, as well as a lake to boat and fish on. New and improved train and old-timey carousel are a fun, affordable ride. The pony rides and petting zoo were inoperable but the abundant wildlife compensated for that. Great place to go for a day out with the family.

Howarth park is a great place to excape and fade out of the busy city for a couple hours. They have plenty to do if your alone or with kids and family. Multiple trails to walk, run or ride bicycle. It has multiple play areas for children to run and play, big open area's of green grass to relax or run on. There is also a good size pond of around 10 acres give or take to fish or feed the ducks and geese. I'm 41 now and have very enjoyable fond memories of the park as a child running around and playing. I also enjoy that the park is open 24 hours if you like to go for walks at midnight or cat fishing. The reason for the four stars and not five is because late night there is a small group of persons who stay the night in the north part of the park by the baseball field and tennis courts. They do not bother people, but would be nice if the park had more lights in and around that area of the park. A flashlight works great if you like to go for late night walks or running because the trails can be very dark on moonless night. Overall the park is a very nice setting to get outdoors for the day or night.

Great park, full details are in my Spring Lake Park review, but here's more... Lots of free parking in the upper lots and additional parking in the lower lots. A playground with a rock climbing wall for the kids. Rentals of water toys; paddle boats, stand up paddle boards, life jackets, etc. Several spots near parking lot to picnic and feed the ducks. Fantastic path starts here to walk a 3.5 mile loop around Howarth Park, into connecting Spring Lake Park and back. Gorgeous walk with tons of trees and shade. Mostly flat with a couple small hills. Lower Howarth has a second huge playground, with a water feature in the hot months, a make believe town, a huge climbing jungle gym and more. Large grassy lawn for play and rest. Several covered gazebos for use on a first come first serve basis. In the warm months they have Movies in the Park held here on Friday nights. During events like movies the are food trucks available just off the lawn. They also have a small engined train for kids to ride a short park loop and pony rides next to the station in the summer. In the upper parking lot, a concession stand opens in summer time as well. Public restrooms are located in the upper lot, near to playground path. In the lower lots on Summer field they have tennis courts, baseball fields. Restaurants, and a yogurt place across the street for when you work up an appetite playing at the park😊

Howarth park is great for a day of tennis, dog walk, stroll around the lake or picnic. There is a cute train you can ride and nice picnic tables you can reserve for a nice party, reservations are free! If you reserve near the train it's a great spot!

Beautiful park. Perfect place for just your name on or your family to picnic, to have a birthday party, and for your kids to play on the playground. There is the Howarth Park train, a jumpy house a carousel, pony rides, and a barn. Plenty of parking, tennis courts near by, softball field nearby, an archery range, fishing at Lake Ralphine where you can watch ducks and geese and feed them seed. You can hike up to Spring Lake Park and back down. There is so much to do, it's worth the trip every time!

Always welcoming park. Lots of playground area for children, pathways to hike and Lake Ralphine to see ducks or paddle boats. Weekends offers kiddie pony rides, carousel, train ride. Tennis courts and fishing too. Dog walks on leash only.

Older Santa Rosa Park with a lake. You can paddle boat, or ride the carousel or train. There is a small store (more like a concession stand) to get water, soda, ice cream or candy. If you like tennis there are a handful of courts you can play. Lots of tables for an event or picnic and lots of paths to wander. The park can get crowded so get there early if you want a spot to spend the day.

I really love Howarth Park, There is so much to do and it is kept pretty darn clean. It has a family feel to it. You can walk around the lake, and in the Spring and Summer you can go,voating, kayaking , swimming, play tennis, picnic, play softball, go on the Merry Go Round, Choo Choo Train, Swings, etc. such great fun. I do have one input for the staff. Please show some enthusiasm. Kids riding the train or Merry Go Round is a rite of passage. Not once today Saturday, did ai see the young lady giving rides on the train interact with the passengers or even smile. A smile can make all the difference. People who train staff needs to do better! Will post a video on Yelp.

I came of age in Santa Rosa almost 50 years ago and visited Howarth Park many times to play tennis with my high school friends. It was very nice to return so long a time later to see that it hasn't changed much and is still a beautiful park and place to visit for families.

A place to walk, jog, there are biking trails, walk from Howarth Park to Spring Lake. Play area in front of park, tennis courts, bbq/picnic tables areas through out the park, there is climbing wall, to many things to list. Great place to bring your family and pets.
Andrew Fournier: ★★★★★
The park has everything. Food? Check: hotdogs, fries, chips, perfect park food. Treats? Check: ice cream and fruit bars. Picnic/bbq areas? Check, though reserve them quick, they always go fast on nice days. Entertainment? Double check. Large playground set for kids, pony rides, a carousel, and a haunted train ride (though maybe they're not talking about the haunted tunnel anymore, but make sure you scream if you go through just in case). Trails? Check. Multiple paths lead around the lake and on smaller trails for varying lengths. All are dog friendly, too. Plus, freaking ducks and geese! And paddle boats! I think there are tennis courts too. Seriously, this park is the best. Hands down.
Robert M.: ★★★★★
This park is country type setting. There's a big lake for fishing and rental boating. There's playgrounds for the kids. BBQ pits and park tables. Hiking trails with benches along your journey. There is a working train for kids to ride the rails and other amusement rides. Baseball diamond and tennis courts.

This Santa Rosa Park has been a family fave over 50yrs. Beautuful, centrally located, lots of shady picnic spots. Def fam friendly. Hold spec events often. Great spot for a childs Bday party..huge playground and open-car kiddie-train rides..also has tennis courts, etc.
Angela G.: ★★★★★
A delight for families with small children. A petting zoo on some days (check on-line to make sure it's open when you want to go) with a knowledgeable young staff who know all about their animals. Beware animal poop on children's shoes, so hose them off before they climb in your lap or car seat afterwards. Pony & horse rides. Play equipment for all ages & stages of imagination. A rock wall to climb. Boats to rent. Or feed the ducks & the Canada geese from shore. Picnic tables, benches, bathrooms all available. Charming old fashioned carousel for kiddies and lovers. Cool new train takes boring short ride. (Go to Train Town in Sonoma instead... although this is closer). Tennis courts here too, but prime times are often taken. Plenty of free parking. Snack bar is extremely limited & nothing much healthy. Howarth Park is a Santa Rosa treasure, great for parents, grandparents, birthday parties, extended family gatherings. OK for strollers. Spend the day or an hour. You'll be back!

I really can't speak to the different activities within the park, like the tennis courts, boating or kids train as we primarily come here to access and hike the trails around Spring lake whenever we forget to grab our parking pass since parking here is free. That being said it can also be crowded and as a result this last time we weren't able to find a place to park. While frustrating for us it makes me happy to see so many people out with their families and friends enjoying everything the park has to offer.

This park is a great place to take the kids to hang out. They have paddle boats to rent for a very great price. They have jumpies, train rides, carousel, pony rides, a big park, tennis court, and a lot of other activities. You can also buy food at the dock to feed the ducks. You can also hike and fish if you want. It is a very fun place to take the kids to play and have a picnic. The only negative part is the parking here is very limited. There is a lot more cars than parking spaces.

Howarth Park is the park for all ages. My family has been going here for 35 years. I visit in the quiet of the day to observe the wildlife on the lake by the boat house. There's an easy paved path around the lake with some benches to sit. Visitors are pleasant to each other. I can't recommend it more highly. I notice the tennis courts are never full. * Specialty childrens' playground close to entrance* Wheel chair accessible* Friendly ducks, geese, swans. [DO remember swans and geese can bite you.] ;)* Across from movie theater & restaurants* BBQ facilities* Lots of tables* Rent a boat* Well maintained* Sketching is good here

Love taking my dog here! I take my dog here for walks all the time and she loves it there. There is a great lake there that many people do fishing as well as paddle boats that people can go on and explore the lake. There are so many things to do at this park! There are tennis courts that are lit, and awesome play area for kids, as well as a petting zoo on the weekends and a kids train that they can ride on. There are great trails that are good for dog walking, and there is also a linking trail to Spring Lake. Great place to go and have a BBQ with family too!

A beautiful park located right in Santa Rosa. They have an amazing playground and train rides for the little ones. Lake Ralphine is right off the main parking lot and you can rent paddle boats during the summer. The lake is stocked with fish regularly and there are always people fishing. There are lots of well maintained dirt trails for the off-roaders, but if you want to keep it clean you can stay on the paved trail that takes you on a 3 mile loop around Springlake. If you are solo, it's a safe place for a walk or jog. There's plenty of public restrooms, water fountains, picnic tables, and a couple of beverage vending machines. The parking gets a little tight on the weekends, but there is a lower parking lot by the tennis courts and plenty of street parking available.
Stephanie W.: ★★★★
This park has so much to offer! We stopped by for a quick picnic and was surprised to see all the different activities here. We ended up renting a paddle boat for 1 hr for $12, which I think is a great price and plenty of time to paddle around. There was a waitlist during the holiday weekend but you can walk around and explore while you wait for their call. Get the paddle bait with the shade if there's availability! There is an upper and lower lot for parking, both free. Did not have an issue finding a spot. Lots of picnic tables but they are a little dirty so bring something to cover the table or extra wipes. This park has a train ride, carousel, trails for walking or biking, tennis courts, playground area, a boathouse for rentals/fishing, and so much more. Good for all ages to visit!

We come here once every 2 months or so, when we're in town visiting my future in-laws. We've never had problems finding parking, even on a weekend. My 2 year old son absolutely loves the train ride, decently priced and decent amount of time on ride. There's also the play area for the kids, the petting zoo, and horse rides. Plenty of shaded areas with benches for the parents, which is an absolute plus. I've never had to use the restroom here, so I cannot comment on whether it was clean or not. We've also been on the paddle boats here, which gives you a nice leg workout! I've seen tennis courts, baseball field, and even tents set up for camping. I've heard from friends that have gone on the trail but personally I have not. Overall a great place to get away for a few hours and enjoy the outdoors.

This is a fabulous park. We have been using Howarth park for 10 years and regularly for the last 7. In recent years they have redone almost all of the playground equipment. There are many things to do all over the park for all ages, young and old. What more could a person want. Go for a hike, go boating, have a picnic, fish, watch your children play on all the great equipment, play tennis, throw a ball or two. If you have young children they can see little animals, ride a train, go on a carasoul and even ride a pony. WOW... How lucky are we? I say pretty darn lucky. I agree parking is bad, but you can unload your stuff and go park if there are two adults.. Or go early and spend the day like we do. Oh yeah, you can also ride bikes around the lake. Have fun and enjoy! Howarth Park is a wonderful gem of a park, dont miss it.

Howarth Park has plenty of parking and has something for everyone. The kids can climb around the walls, the family can go on the mini train, and everyone can go on a walk around the lake.I recently came here on a week day and really enjoyed my time here. I found a bench and read my reader's digest while the wildlife casually roamed around. Next to me, a father was teaching his 2 sons how to fish and on the pier a mother was taking photos with her kids. There really are all sorts of people here because when I did a lap around the lake, there were groups of men cat calling and drinking beer, couples fishing in the corners and people pushing prams and walking dogs all around. At the lake you can go boating, there is a mini coffee stand, tennis courts near the front and longer trails you can visit.I feel pretty safe visiting this park by myself and the facilities are clean and tended to so do check it out.

The location is good, and the park is spacious. The bathrooms could be cleaner and the train broke down the other day, and everybody had to get off mid-ride and walk on the tracks back. We are rarely in Santa Rosa. Rather than refund our tickets, they gave us tickets to use for another time, which doesn't do us much good. Their play Western Town is adorable. It would be nice if they installed a small fence on the hill between the lower level of the park and the top of the hill where you buy tickets for rides. There are small bits of gravel on the main path and off to the side which is somewhat indistinguishable and my children fell while walking down the rough path. There is a frozen yogurt store across the street and some tennis courts. During the summer small fountains will spray water for your children to run through, so bring swimsuits for the playground area. While I did not use the entire park space, they have so many things to offer, it has been over a year since I have been there and I would love to go back!

Howarth Park is a great park for kids and adults of all ages. There are plenty of things to keep the kids entertained as well as some nice paved and unpaved trails for the adults. For kids they have a newly remodeled playground (it definitely doesn't look the same from when I was a kid!), pony rides, train rides, a carousel and outdoor movies in the summer. For adults they have tennis courts, a lake, and plenty of trails which you can run, walk or bike on. Many of the trails are paved and slightly hilly, but there are also other unpaved trails that go up into the hills for a more advanced hike. For everybody there is a baseball field, boat rides, and a covered gazebo with benches that you can rent for parties and family gatherings. There are also a lot of shaded benches and grass areas around the park to hangout on.The only thing I don't like is the PARKING. There is a parking lot in front, one in back, and one to the side of the park (with other various spaces lining the road between the lots) but it never is enough! Parking always spills out into the street and parking lots of adjoining businesses which can be irritating if you are trying to enjoy said businesses.I would recommend Howarth Park to anyone in the area, it's really a neighborhood gem!
