I really liked how organized the courts are and how friendly the players were! I’ve met some really lovely people and they have SO many programs. I will say though my clinic with coach Shelley was not one of my best experiences. Perhaps it is her coaching style, but I felt like she was quite rude to to a lot of the people in the class. She has a strength in giving negative feedback but lacked the ability to verbalize corrections in a way I understood. She also got quite frustrated when the players did not understand the drill she wanted them to do, however when the whole class is confused perhaps the fault is in the teacher. I am sure she is a great coach for more advanced players but should not be teaching classes open to beginners in my opinion. But hopefully others have a better experience with her! I’d love to take another class here but with another coach, however it’s hard to tell on the website who the staff is when booking. On the other hand, coach Luisa was excellent and gave great feedback! I would gladly work with her again.

I play here on the league once a week and have been playing for a few months now. I LOVE this place. The people who are in charge of the league and courts are extremely helpful. The courts themselves are so nice. If I could give 100 stars I would
Kolton Steed: ★★★★
Prices are fair for reserving a court. So far, everyone honors the time blocks. Campus security will ticket you if you don't print the free parking permit and display it properly though.

I've been playing at HB Pickleball consistently for a little under 6 months now. Whenever I leave town and play elsewhere, I find myself comparing those courts to HB Pickleball. It's not only about the shiny new courts with permanent nets and color-blocked courts that actually help see distinct lines for line calls, but it's about the community of frequent players that come out every night. I've found a great group of people that are great fun to play with, that are still able to play a competitive game. Many people that come out are there to have fun, learn, and laugh with others rather than play to win. These reasons are why I always recommend HB Pickleball as the place to play for new and veteran players, whether local or visiting. I do wish there were a consistent number of open play courts rather than coming to the courts to find that only 4 out of 12 courts are for open play. When HB Pickleball is running on all cylinders again with all 24 courts in commission after construction for their new permanent courts, I expect them to be a very well-recommended place to play at.

Great courts, amazing staff and for someone that doesn't pickleball very often I had a great time! The people there truly care and it shows, cannot wait to go back. Might get the itch and buy some legit gear!
Erika R.: ★★★★★
Lovely place to play and the staff are very kind. Highly recommend checking it out if you're in OC.

Just finished Shelly's Beginner class. It was more fun than I hoped for: A friendly and detailed coach, nice people to learn with, and good courts makes for a great time. I hadn't even held a paddle, but would now be comfortable in open play. Thanks Shelly!
Sisi T.: ★★★★★
Had a great time here with a friend. Came on a Saturday afternoon at opening time (4PM) and there were only a few other groups in the courts. The lines are hard to see (as another reviewer has already mentioned) but you get used to it. Will definitely be back! $5 is well worth not having to wait around in public courts and being pressured into playing doubles with strangers when we're still learning to aim.
Arielle S.: ★★★★★
A great place to play pickleball! The facility is well maintained and is perfect for players of all skill levels. Staff is also friendly and welcoming!
Brandon Y.: ★★★★★
Great service, easy to get a court and get to playing quickly. Friends had a great time and we'll be back soon!
MaryAnn P.: ★★★★★
Took the liveball intermediate class on Saturday. Shelly is a great instructor. Lots king forward to doing it again and eventually taking a lesson.
Ada B.: ★★★★★
Just played in the newly renovated permanent courts. The 12 back courts are finished, they are working on the front 12 currently. The lighting is great at night and the players are friendly at all levels. Once the courts are finished (probably 2 weeks from now) it's a great deal for $5. The college does charge for parking which is not controlled by the company running the court's. You can buy passes for monthly, quarterly or annual use. Shelly the coach is amazing if you need a class or lessons.
Valentin S.: ★★★★
They just resurfaced the floor with new paint and put in new nets so it looks so good. Everyone there is really nice and there is a wide range of experience between the players so you don't have to feel intimidated if you are new because you aren't the only one. Over all my experience there is really good.
Gill F.: ★★★★★

I've had fun playing here as there are a large number of courts. Reservations can be made online. You have to pay for parking during school season which is unfortunate. Customer service is an issue I had a problem with signing up for this seasons pickleball league and emailed them twice with no response ever.I did their adv beginner league last season and it was fun.

tl,dr: numerous open-play pickleball courts!Likes:+ High quality pickleball courts.+ Bright lights at night.+ Lots of friendly players you can drop-in with.+ Wide range of skill level.+ Its location (GWC) is pretty close to home, compared to Tustin courts.+ I like the tennis nets that separate 6 pball courts from the other 6.Non-likes:- The pickleball court lines are drawn straight onto the tennis court, so the lines can be a little confusing. Before starting your game, I recommend taking mental note of which lines are tennis and which lines are pball.- The water refill station and the restroom are a 5min walk away from the pickleball courts. Wish they were just no more than 1min walk away.- $5 cash drop-in. I think it should be $2.- The sign on the door lists the rules. One of the rules says to play with your skill level, but the courts are not organized by skill level.- There needs to be separation between the 6 adjacent courts. Too many ball-on interferences.- Fridays they close at 9pm instead of the usual 10pm (Mon-Thu).Gripe:- Would be nice if snacks/drinks were available by the entrance.Notes:. Check the HB pickleball website if you need to print the free parking permit.. Out of their 24 pickleball courts, 12 are open-play.. 4 pickleball courts per tennis court.

One of the ladies that calls herself a coach doesn't even know the rules when you ask her. Not only that but she takes her time updating the standings... The other lady is really professional.. You'll have to figure out which one is which, it won't be hard.
Negative Reviews:
J Lee: ★
Fed up with this place. The staff here is horrible. Especially, Ryan. Very rude. 2nd time having an issue with this guy, now I dont want to return. I gave constructive criticism about the balls being supplied for league. They are old, faded, and cracked. I had to use my own balls. He said all I do is complain. I was told if I don't like it, I could leave. I told him I paid for league so I am going to stay. Also, the league stats are rarely ever updated. I think my complaints are warranted. They charge a lot, and I expect better. Be aware though, you will be attacked if you complain.
Ryan: ★★
The courts are nice and plentiful, especially crowded on weekday nights. However, Thursdays are best avoided due to some problematic staff, including one who charges spectators. My friends and I booked 3 courts from 8 to 10 PM, but a staff member turned off the lights at 9:53 PM, insisting we leave by 10, which was frustrating and disappointing. We paid money for those hours so we should be able to use all those hours to fullest. This abrupt ending soured our experience, making it less attractive to return. The players are respectful and enjoyable to play with, but some staff actions have tarnished the experience. Additionally, be aware that patrols ticket vehicles without parking permits.
Raymond Ngo: ★★
Avoid coming here on Thursday. There is an old lady staff that always turn off the light at 9:53pm even though me and my friends already booked 3 courts from 8 to 10pm. This is the third time that she's doing it. 7 minutes per court times 3 courts are 21 minutes fun time that she took away from us. Others days staff are nice and friendly.
Jose Velazquez: ★★
Great and plentiful courts, always popping in the night time on weekdays. Don't go here on Thursday nights though, not all the staff working the courts are that great. One worker will charge people who come in to spectate. As well, even though my friends and I booked a court from 8 to 10 PM, one worker suddenly turned the lights off on us at 9:53 PM saying we had to be out of the courts by 10 PM. Not worth going here anymore, I'd rather go to Mile Square Park.
Theodore “Ted” Vu: ★
Impossible to get in touch with someone if you need to make a change to your reservation. They do not check their online chat and they do not respond to emails. There partitions between the courts are inadequate. Better places to play elsewhere.
Terry F.: ★★
Courts are in fair to good condition; depends on what the weather was recently like. Weekends have become a joke as far as professionally run courts are concerned. Don't expect anyone to be there on time! The last 3-4 weeks, consistently 10-20 minutes late (and NO, they don't adjust the time you reserved your court!).For the last year (maybe even longer), the back courts 19, 20, 21 have been reserved for instruction. This past week, our group had been warming up on courts 13-15 (after getting on the courts after 0830). Ten minutes later, Coach Shelly comes over and tells us we have to move because her classes take priority and her reserved courts are wet at the baseline, but we can play on them!! What a joke for a "professional" instructor! For me, this is the last straw! The management of these courts, is incompetent, has no professionalism and should be replaced. Much better courts and people and teaching pros at a facility very close by; sorry but you will have to find them on your own, courts are too crowded! ;-)Too bad these courts are being ruined by Coach Shelly and whomever else is in charge!
Lisa B.: ★
There's no customer service. Having issues with signing up for parking no one answers phone or answers emails or even off instagram. Seal beach court is much better staffed better and free parking. It's cheaper. Prob last tournament. Agape is better so far
Thomas K.: ★★
This place is horrible for open play! They overbook, reserve too many people and the courts doesn't have enough room and people not playing walking around your court as your playing, causing a safety issue. Very few areas to sit so have to stand and you will wait a long time to play. Loose balls all over place and very chaotic . On their website they tell you to download the parking permit but they no longer have the link, once there they tell you to pay for parking. Coach Shelly Wong is very good if you want to take classes.
Nathan H.: ★★
Love the availability and their organization but tonight me and 3 others of my group couldn't stop slipping. I fell twice and almost slammed my head on 1, while wearing brand new tennis shoes. The kids that were running the check-in table also turned the lights off 5 minutes early, which isn't very curtious if we are paying by time. On my way out I let them know how slick the courts were, acknowledging that they were just redone, and they disregarded my concern. I played on courts 23 & 24, but they mentioned others have also complained and that its probably from water on the courts but they were bone dry. I come from a tennis background so I understand how the court surface and humidity work but it was also one of the least humid nights in HB that it has been in a while, so I dont think it was from that either. I feel like the surface was unsuccessfully paved and it might get dangerous for others because I fell twice in the hour and a 1/2 that I was there.I would appreciate the follow through of this concern because I genuinely like playing at this facility!
HB Cali G.: ★★
Paying for Parking for leagues and classes you pay for is ridiculous. You pay for monthly parking and the courts are closed 12:30-5?? And if it rains the last day of the league they do not extend your parking pass. So you need to buy another pass. The price of the leagues went up so now with the cost of parking does not make sense. Very unfortunate they do not know how to run a good pickleball program.
Terrey T.: ★
Communication..in my experience, email responses to my inquiries are left unresponsive. No contact number to speak to a live person.
